3M Foam Compounding Pad 05723 is a fast-cutting, single-sided foam pad designed to help reduce sanding and remove fine scratches. When paired with 3M liquid compounds, this pad helps refine P1200 and finer grade sand scratches in clear coat and paint repair processes. Featuring a convolute foam face, this compounding pad achieves improved finishes by conforming to curves and body lines, increasing surface contact and holding compound in place to reduce slinging. It helps refine scratches on hard, medium, and cured paint finishes. This compounding pad is easy to reuse and change with hook-and-loop attachments. Use with a compatible 3M backup pad for fast, clean, and easy attachment to and removal from rotary polishers. When used with the Perfect-It EX AC Rubbing Compound, this foam pad effectively helps remove scratches prior to polishing. For paint refinishing requiring the finest finish in automotive and marine paint repair, use the 3M Foam Compounding Pad 05723. Two pads are included.

I bought these as a basic/heavy compound and buffing pad to replace an older 3M pad (different 5 digit serial number) that has been discontinued. The old one lasted many years, so I bought these hoping they'd be similar. These have the same foam density (for more aggressive compounds) and same waffle pattern as the old style, and they clean easily. If you're looking for fine polishing, you want the black or blue 3M pads. The backing on the pad is designed for velcro-type hook and loop fastening, which is what I needed. My buffer has a custom hook pad (not 3M brand) but it works just fine. I was concerned that the pad fabric on this new pad looked too smooth/flat for my hooks to attach firmly, but it wasn't a problem. Pad stays secure. The only tricky bit is getting it centered on the buffer, but that's not the product, that's just the reality of hook-and-loop buffing pads.

The gelcoat on my boat was dull and oxidized. The 3M Foam Compound Pad was the first and most important step in getting it to shine.

Buena borla, solo que es para aplicar compuesto o compound y no tanto para pulir ya que es algo dura la esponja

I still do not know the actualy difference in compounding and polishing, but these had done a great job for me on waxing applications. Also in use to polish headlamps on older vehicles, with turtle wax metal polish. A little plastic protectant at the end, and better results than the sandpaper method I have used before with no damage to the paint in the area.

Used on the rotary buffer backing pad, this compounding pad is awesome. The variegated surface is one of the keys to its success. The mater is brought along behind the high points so that sling material off the car and onto your neighbors car doesn't happen. One might say that slinging is not an issue. OK. but if the compounding material is not slung, then it must stay on the car. Yes? Also the swirl marks left by the pad are so small and is easy to remove with "Swirl Remover". Also there is minimal build-up left on the pad so the pad lasts a very long time if washed out and dried properly. Used with 3M rubbing compound, this is a perfect match. Will use again.
