This set of slides is great for kids of all ages. My son is in middle school and he really liked getting to see slides of specimens we wouldn't be able to get on our own.

Last year I got a nice binocular microscope with a video camera that downloads to the computer, pretty high-end for a home user, more suitable to a college biology lab. Because of that, I've been on the lookout for a decent set of prepared slides just like these - I've actually reviewed a few sets at this point, but this is the nicest. The slides come in a well-protected, well-labeled snap-shut plastic box, inside of a beautifully printed cardboard presentation box, surrounded by multiple foam layers. It would make a perfect gift for a student, or even an old, retired fart like me who wants to play scientist.I didn't drag my big scope out for this review, but I did glance at a couple with my handy portable field microscope - that's a picture of some muscle cells from the kit.

I like this set of specimens because they are rather varied and each slide is well labelled. Here are some pros and cons of this set of histology microscope slides.Pros:- Rounded glass slide corners means that there is a lower likelihood of sharp glass corners causing damage.- Labels for each of the slides is written clearly.- Storage box is small and sturdy.Cons:- Storage box is extremely difficult to open. For those who do not have strong fingers and hands, it might be almost impossible to do so without a flat edge screwdriver. They should have used a clasp instead of such a mechanism.Overall, I do recommend these slides despite the box being very difficult to open.
