It is a thread preparation product designed specifically for spoke threads. A blend of teflon, acrylic resin, and different types of waxes, Spoke Dope is invaluable in the preparation of spoke threads for wheel building. Even if you are only building a few sets of wheels at a time, Spoke Dope will work for you. It is water based, and can be brought back to life with just a few drops of water, rather than clumping and having to be disposed of. Comes packaged as TWO 20ml bottles of different colors to help you keep your spoke lengths separated.

I was surprised that up to 1/2 of this spoke prep flaked off of the spokes when putting the wheel together. I let the product dry on the spokes, then assembled right away. The spokes are staying tight, so I guess it works. Next time I will try coating the treads, drying, then coat a second time and dry. The 2 little jars are enough for several lifetimes, so I suppose I'm stuck with this rather costly purchase.

It would be handy if the colors were not so similar, though.

Seems to be good. Haven't really tested it yet, but it dries well and seems to be decent. Good amount to do several sets of wheels.

Works just fine. One is a line for the drive side and the other is a light threadlocker for the non-drive side. The color is pretty close so it doesn’t work great for marking which side is which so keep track of which side the spokes will be going on
