I got this for my soon to be 7 year old granddaughter as she had asked me to teach her latchhooking a few months ago when I had my old latch hook kit out and was working on it. Mine had a color stamped base so easy to use and she picked up how to use the latch hook pretty quickly. Well this kit didn't come with a hook which shocked me but thank goodness I had a couple hooks on hand so we were able to get started on it. The yarn is very poor quality - feels very cheap and is hard to tighten up once it's on the grid and loosens up pretty quickly. Also there's no color on the grid to guide you so this was confusing at first to her to have to use a grid to see where the colors go. She understands how it works; just frustrating. I'll pay more attention next time to the details of the kit information and to the reviews.

I really like the design! I got this for my kids and They are really enjoying it! The only downside for me is they did not separate the colors of yarn so they are all bundled together. Does not bother me personally, but it drives my kids a little nuts (to the point that I just separated the colors into little bags lol). But see, easy fix! Also, I had to go over the design with markers just to make it really clear for my kids, but not necessary as it comes with a color map. My kids are on the young side and it was their first experience which is why I marked all the colors for them.

Wonderart Cupcake Latch Kook Kit 12" x 12" is a nice hook rug that gives you something to do. Kids and adults can both do it. I bought a hook with a wood handle to do the hook rug with. It would be nearly impossible to do it with your bare hands. The end result is a nice picture of a cupcake on a light pink background. Let me just warn you that this takes a LONG time to do. Good for your bored kids, but not if you want to finish it quickly and don't have much time to do it. This hook rug comes with very clear instructions that tell you where to put each piece. My only complaint is the yarn. The pieces are short and stiff. They give the finished product a rough feeling. I prefer the longer, soft pieces of yarn that come with many other hook rugs. These pieces of yarn are also harder to use because they are so short and stiff.

This was my very first latch hook project and I loved it! Even though I had to buy the hook separately, the rest came in the box and the kit was cheaper to buy through Amazon then my local craft stores. The pattern is not printed on the grid, which worried me at first since a lot of the other reviews complained about that, but they include the pattern on paper and it was very easy to follow! Had no problem reading the directions and getting started. I even ended up turning it into a pillow for my son, which he loves! And I think the colors are pretty true to the box and picture included. For my first kit, this was super easy and I enjoyed doing it.

I decided to try out latch hook as a way to de-stress, and it worked great. I work in a stressful job, so in my downtown, I sometimes carry that stress with me. It's hard to just sit down and relax. This project ended up being a great way to keep my hands busy and occupied while watching television or movies, listening to music, or doing whatever I'm doing. I'd done latch hook back when I was a kid, so it had been a long time, but it was just as easy as I remembered it: you wrap the hook through the netting, twist the yarn around the hook, and then pull it through. (Repeat the same process thousands and thousands of times!)At first, I was put off by the numbering system because I expected the design to be directly printed onto the screen. Now, they provide a grid with numbers printed on paper. This turned out not to be a big deal at all. Once I familiarized myself with how to read the grid (and how to mark off the rows I'd already done), I really sank into it the process. There was something about the tactile repetition that was almost like a meditation for me: it slowed my mind and let me relax. This is the perfect sized project for beginners. It's not too big or too small, and I like dogs, so it was fun to watch the shape appear. Again, I highly recommend trying this out of you're the type of person likes to keep your hands busy.

There's was no design drawn on the fabric which was disappointing initially, also no latch hook itself was included with the kit which I knew by reading the other reviews -but then I found out that you can purchase one at Walmart for under $2, which I did. I decided to make the most out this and followed the instructions, sorted out the yarns and crossed off each row as I got done on the color-coded grid thing. I guess it could be actually difficult and time consuming for some as you have to have patience and follow closely as the green/turquoise colors are very similar (make sure you sit some place where there is good lighting) but I decided to take this on as a mini-challenge. I actually took the time to follow the instructions and followed the grid and it actually was pretty fun. My daughter even decided to do some of it with me and she thought it was neat too but kind of lost interest after a couple of days. It only took a week to complete and looks nice, might even frame it and hang it above my piano!

Cute little latch hook. Hoping to make it into a little pillow for a friend who loves birds (if I can figure out how lol, I'm not great at sewing). The yarn was decent quality and didn't constantly fray like other latch hooks I've tried, and the pattern was easy to follow and the yarn colors fairly easy to distinguish. Remember if you have issues figuring out which color is which, make sure to look at the number of pieces of yarn there are supposed to be in each color. That usually helps a lot. Also, since this is a common complaint even though the description already states this, this does not come with the latch hook tool. You will need to buy one if you're new to latch hooking and don't already have one. All and all I enjoyed working on this and it is a good one for beginners. I'm really happy with the finished project, it is very cute.
