Better then I expected and my boys loved them.They are heavy though, as there is chain under the wrap (I assumed is would have been a lighter weight braided cable)

Gets the job done. Easy to unlock and to handle. Remember!!!! The key has to be IN the lock to unlock AND lock the chain.

I recently picked up this bike chain lock, and overall, it's been a reliable choice for securing my bike and other valuables. The 6mm thick alloy steel chain feels very sturdy, and the hardened zinc alloy cylinder adds extra peace of mind against theft. It seems to offer great protection with its anti-drilling and anti-cutting features, making it a solid choice for everyday use.The design is thoughtful too. The lock is covered in a soft polypropylene fabric, which not only protects my bike frame from scratches but also prevents the chain from rusting over time. Plus, it’s nice to have a lock that won’t freeze up or become too hot to handle, thanks to its anti-scald and anti-ice properties. It feels durable and built to last, which is great given the relatively affordable price.One of my favorite aspects is how easy it is to use. The lock snaps together without needing the key, which saves a lot of hassle, especially when I'm in a rush. It comes with three keys, so I always have backups in case one gets misplaced. The only downside is that the 2.95 ft length can be a bit limiting if you need to secure larger items or more than one bike at a time. It works well for single items, but you might want a longer chain for bigger jobs.Overall, this lock is a great value for its level of security and ease of use. It's versatile enough for a range of uses beyond just bikes, like securing gates or tools, and the lifetime limited warranty is a nice touch that shows the company's confidence in its product. Just be aware of the length if you have bigger security needs.

NOTE: This review is for the 8MM diameter heavy chain model, not the 3.8MM or 6MM diameter chain models. I requested and received for free this VIA VELO 8MM BIKE CHAIN LOCK last week to test it and give my honest opinion. Great heavy duty chain and locking system. You should have NO PROBLEM with the 8MM model and the strong materials used to made it. The 8MM MODEL is tough and heavy duty, you should have NO PROBLEM WITH IT. Has beefy fabric covering to keep it from scratching the finish on your bike or whatever you are using it with. I used this to chain my gas generator to my deck support beam so it didn't go missing while we are on an extended vacation last month. Mine came with three keys, not two keys as stated in the seller's ad. There is also a lifetime limited warranty.

I own a Heavy Duty Via Velo Gold Rated U-Lock, i love that thing and definitely protects my bike when i need to place it for an extended (bear in mind that extended means a couple of hours) amount of time on a rack or out of sight in general.The issue i have with U-Locks is its inherent weight and sheer size, when i go out with my ultralight water hydration backpack i only carry a mini bike pump and a multitool for emergencies, adding a U-Lock adds a lot of weight to my backpack.I was torn between a cable lock and a lightweight chain that wasn't super thin, and i found the perfect balance here, at around 1.3 Pounds this chain lock is pretty lightweight, but 6mm links will provide a decent amount of protection and it's not as easy to cut as a cable lock, sure, it can definitely be cut with the proper tools, but it'll take either larger tools or more time than the cable one.The locking mechanism is smooth and setting a new combination was easy using the standard procedure.I didn't go and try to pick it or find if it's "double gated" or has fake trips to throw you off as every locking mechanism is only as strong as its weakest link, thieves won't be picking, they will be cutting.The bottomline is that i ordered this Via Velo Chain for short(er) stops or longer stops if within my sight to secure my bike, it feels sturdy and a great balance of weight and protection, also looks super cool. At $14 this is a bargain, definitely recommended!

I’ve tried 2 other types of bike locks. I prefer this one because it easily locks and releases. I found the rubber curled locks too tight to stretch out and the combination lock type was hard to get the number dial lined up. This one is easy peezy!
