I used a short 19ish inch antenna with this NMO mount. The SWR did change moving it from my PU mounting to the NMO mount on a NV2500. The SWR was still usable but it did change. I am a big fan of using this with a shorter antenna because my converted cargo van is REALLY TALL. I am able to still reach out on simplex very well around town. Near and distant repeaters are able to be reached except when I have any blockage. That is pretty common but we all know that happens day in and day out. The farthest repeater I can reach is out 75 miles while sitting in my driveway. While doing simplex my antenna is up and over all the other traffic I am driving in. A taller antenna would be a tree catcher driving around town an I fear would do damage to the antenna and my van roof. This isn't a fault of the NMO mount but the thinner metal used today to construct vehicles.

We used these in our radio shop for years, They can be installed from the top of the roof without falling through the 3/4" hole. The O-ring supplied seals out the weather very well and the NMO mount is a very low profile if you need to remove your antenna before going through a car wash. These are great quality coax kits and last for years.

I'm using a Larson 2 m / 70 cm halfwave antenna. Installation was easy. Removed the third brake light, found a suitable spot, used a step drill bit and made the three quarter inch hole. I used a little bit of loctite on the threads and tightened it down snug. Running the cable down and around the window and through the side pillars was not that difficult. I now have a professionally mounted antenna on my 2004 F150 with an SWR of one to one at 146.550 MHz. My previous mount was one of those clips mounted to the top of my rear door. Best SWR was 1.7 to 1. I consider this a massive improvement!

Cable seems good quality overall. Lots of braid for shielding. No issues with the NMO connector. Factory soldered connections seem sturdy. May add some silicone to weather proof a bit but that's about it.I coupled this with a Tram BR-180-B antenna and my Icom ID-5100. SWR came out fairly decent (about 1.4 to 1.7 or so) for a 2 door Wrangler with the antenna mounted on the back tire carrier.

While the brass disc has an O-ring, the soldered cable connection has a simple dust cap that is not water tight. I used some gutter sealer on the dust cap, otherwise the conductors, solder and brass bottom are exposed to water full time. This is only an issue if you're using a lip mount or angle bracket where the underside would be exposed to the elements. If the under side of your hood, cab or trunk is wet, you have bigger problems.

Installed this yesterday. The hole making process always feels like a crap shoot....but with a stepper bit it was no problem.Easy to install. Long enough. and there is a rubber grommet set into the screw down bezel. Smart design.Seems to perform well...but those gains/differences are likely from the antenna...as they should be.High quality item at a great price.

Perfect for my ham radio install. Pretty straight forward piece. Cable was plenty long to run from center of roof on 2014 Silverado, down the frame between front and rear door on drivers side, along the floor boad to the front, across the front and back to the center console where radio is mounted with about 1' to spare. Install took about 5 minutes overall and did not need to hold the piece from the underside to screw on the thread. Very happy with its performance as well. If you are comfortable putting a Pl259 connector on the end, you can get away with a smaller hole on the roof. But the 3/4" hole needed is just big enough for the Pl259 plug end to fit down through the hole
