About this item

  • These are raw, green coffee beans. They aren't roasted. If you try to brew them green, it will taste like earthy water. Some people kind of like this, but its not the conventional way most people consume coffee. When coffee beans are raw, they are a greenish/yellowish color. They're also very hard and would be difficult to grind. Different coffee drinkers have their own preferences on how to roast them. We imagine most consumers of these beans would roast them.
  • We at Tesoros have tried this particular crop at different roast levels, and found a light roast, right after second crack, to be excellent. The flavors you will get out of a light roast is a stone fruit, red grape, citrusy, acidic taste. It is also high in caffeine comparatively to other beans. You will notice. These are fresh, Fall 2022 harvest
  • Most of the beans on the farm where these come from are Bourbon variety, but there is some Costa Rica 95, Pacamara, and Geisha in this blend. The flavors of the beans come from the sunlight exposure, moisture, soil composition, and nutrients. This farm is like heaven, a sun drenched mountain top with light morning rains, hot afternoons, cool breezes in the evening. You can taste this in the beans.
  • Honey washed and non honey washed, and packed in 3 and 5 lb vacuum bags. They're both processed at the same facility, but the honey washed ones have a bit of pulp left on them during the drying process. This leaves on a little bit of extra natural sugar. If you're a professional roaster, its fun to experiment with various drying and preperation beans to see what kind of flavors you can get on different roast levels. We have had great feedback with these beans.
  • Green coffee beans last for a long time, they start to degrade in flavor and smell after roasting. Still, tempature and moisture aren't friends of the beans, so we keep them grainpro sealed until we portion them out, and then we vaccum seal them so they have minimum air exposure before they get to you.

El Salvador's Coffee Industry Challenges

A mere decade ago, El Salvador was exporting over 12 million quintals of coffee in large burlap sacks. With the right labor and transportation, a single farm could yield dozens or even hundreds of quintals. Coffee harvesting is labor and capital intensive, and economic issues have significantly impacted El Salvador's coffee production. In 2022, exports dropped to less than 1 million quintals.

The size is shown as "80 Ounce (Pack of 1)" and the cost per ounce is shown as $0.37, which is correct for an 80 ounce bag. Also, the picture shows what appears to be "5.13 lb" on the label. However, I received only three (3) pounds, which works out to $0.625/ounce and is far from what is advertised. The item title does show "3 lb"; however, that is the only thing on the page that states three (3) pounds. Everything thing else works out of five (5) pounds. Also, once purchased, you cannot return this, even with Prime.Buyer beware!

I literally got these to season my new bullet roaster, but I had some extra so I did a city roast with them and they were fragrant and surprisingly tasty.

I have been roasting coffee for at least ten years and have roasted beans from all over the world. However, I have never roasted any beans from El Salvador. I am very supportive of what has been happening in El Salvador as they emerge from decades of violence and wanted to help support their economy in some small way. Normally, I like a dark roast for my beans but I took the advice of another purchaser and tried medium. The flavor was rich and smooth with no bitterness. This coffee is good to the last drop and everyone who has tasted it likes it. I was surprised at how full-bodied this coffee was even at medium roast. I have already shared a few pounds with another friend to roasts his own coffee. The price for 5 lbs. of this high quality coffee was very reasonable. I know where I will be getting my next bag of beans.

The owner and supplier of these coffee beans is a great seller. Great to work with good contact. I roasted these beans in a hot top coffee roaster using artesian software. I finished them at a temperature of about 179° which gave me a good medium roast, I did a 20% finishing from first crack to drop.I had to laugh at some of the comments that people left. These beans are not meant to be ground as green beans all coffee beans start green. All coffee beans are roasted before you can drink them as coffee. I really laughed when I saw the one that said the coffee beans were too hard to grind. Not very many grinders can grind green coffee beans all the flavor comes in the way you roast it.I think I would disregard all the negative comments that are based on trying to drink the coffee with green beans.I definitely will be back to buy more. The price is outstanding, and the flavor profile is very smooth with a nutty sweet overtone.

I’ve never had unroasted and honey washed coffee beans before, so as a coffee lover I was curious to try it. This 3 pound bag from El Salvador was quite a surprise. Unlike regular dark roasted coffee beans, these are honey colored and resemble peanuts. They’re just as hard to grind—in fact it was impossible with a handheld coffee-grinder and really took a toll on my electric one. The ground beans were still coarse and no matter how much I brewed, the liquid was clear with a mere hint of coffee flavor which I found very unsatisfying.Honey-washed beans are more of a procedure to keep away mold, but there really is no honey taste to this coffee and although it’s safe to drink unroasted coffee, it could be better used for other things like cleaning products (check the web for ideas).Overall, this was very disappointing and I don’t think it will catch on as a trendy drink in American cafes at least.
