Dial indicators are also called dial gauges, probe, and electronic indicators. These precision instruments measure small linear distances and object sizes. The dial magnifies the measurement so that it can be easily read by the human eye. Frequently used in manufacturing, laboratories, and other industrial or mechanical fields, dial indicators are used anywhere a small measurement must be found and recorded or transferred, such as checking the variation in tolerance of a workpiece. Standard dial indicators measure the displacement along the axis of the indicator. Dial test indicators are very similar to dial indicators, except that the axis of measurement is perpendicular to the axis of the indicator. Dial and dial test indicators can be analog, with a mechanical dial, or electronic, with a digital display. Some electronic models transfer the data electronically to a computer for recording and potential manipulation.

Brown & Sharpe manufactures precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools. The company, founded in 1833, is headquartered in North Kingstown, RI.

Genuine Brown and Sharpe product. Price is steep but quality insured. I like that it locates off of center of spindle compared to other Noga indicator holder products. Keep a 1/8th Allan key handy.

An employee broke my old brown & sharpe I had for 20yrs, so I bought a cheap off brand to try and replace. That was a big mistake that I won't make again. Pay the extra $ for this product, especially if you're a machinist. It holds indicator in place with no movement, yet easy to adjust inside a hole. Pivots smoothly and stays rigid.

I've been a machinist for since I was 14 and this is a really good axial arm

By the way my unit was Shiped from and sold by Amazon.com, and not a third partyI'm almost positive its an authentic Tesa Made holder...*NOT a fake!*Stamped "Swiss Made".This is the .375" diameter model. It fits perfectly in the traditional Interapid blow molded case(as shown in picture) that we all know comes with a new Interapid. But no additional accessories. If your looking to complete your set, or perhaps you just need this arm in particular... your not going to get ripped off by purchasing a counterfeit...It's got two holes for the 4mm stem that comes attached to any Interapid. The one 4mm hole is right in the face in between the cut for the dove tail.. The other 4mm hole on the body is ANGLED... (Reference photos)*This item greatly reduces the chance of "indicator drop" associated with turning the mechanism upside down.. also this will make your indicator set up very ridged*

This is well made and works perfectly. Not a bad price either. First one I've ever bought but would recommend to others.
