To my surprise this little pump did an awesome job. As I am preparing for the upcoming swimming pool season I always attempt to get the inside of the pool very clean as possible. Every couple of years I drain my pool completely and replace with clean fresh water. When doing so, in the past I've syphoned the water out of the pool. My pool holds 10,000 gallons of water. So I thought I'd give this pump a try and see how it worked. Now it's February so the water is still very cold at the time I did this. I attached a 100 ft garden hose to the pump. From the pool I stretched the garden hose away from my neighbors driveway so it wouldn't wash away the gravel or cause any ruts in the neighbors driveway. I pulled the cover back off my pool and lowered the pump to the bottom of the pool. Plug it upped and let it do its thing. I wasn't in a real big rush to drain the pool, so I would check it occasionally to see if the water level was dropping. No it isn't the fastest pump in the world but to cut to the chase, it drained every bit of the 10,000 gallons leaving about a 1/4 of an inch if not less in the bottom of the pool. Just enough water for me to mop up the bottom of the pool. This has been the easiest clean up of my pool prior to pool season in the last 13 years. Just because of this little pump. I would recommend this to anyone especially if it is used to drain a swimming pool or a hot tub.

I have an underground pool that we do not use and has been drained. When it rains it collects water and I needed a way to pump it out. I had a small pump that quit working, this pump it great. It pumps the water out 3 times faster. Love it.

Wish it had a built in auto-shutoff based on water level, and I feel like something marketed as a sump pump should inherently have that. This doesn't, so I had to knock a star for that. Beyond that though? it works great, and if you DO want to use it as a sump pump, you could put a float valve on it to control whether it is powered or not. That being said, it can pump dirty water, but I wouldn't expect it to work very long if you had something thick and sludge like, or with hard contaminants like pea gravel. It does pump exactly what they claim in the listing, which as the most important part, makes me very happy with this. How do I know it really can push 1000 GPH? Our bathtub faucet can fill a 5 gallon bucket in about 60 seconds, or 1 minute. So if I let it run for 10 minutes, I get 50 gallons of water, and that's right before we hit the overflow valve, so I know I really have about 50 gallons in there. The tube I put on the discharge head of the pump (and ran into the toilet) is going up about 1 or 2 feet in elevation, so well below the 15 ft specification to achieve 1000Gph. 1000GPH is about 17 Gallons a minute, so 50 gallons in the tub should get drained in about 3 minutes (17gpm times 3 is about 50 gallons total)Granted, the stopwatch on my phone and knowing my flow rate from filling a 5 gallon bucket, and then testing this between the toilet and the tub isn't the most scientific endeavour...but it gives a rough estimate. And it did take about 2 and a half minutes for it to empty the water. That's notably faster than we would expect at 1000GPH. In fact, that's about 20% faster, so it's roughly 1,200 gph when I did my test, whitch is EXACTLY what their chart says if you actually use this to move water without any vertical increase in height. So, it really does what it says it does. They didn't lie about the specs. That's good enough for me for a cheap pup to occasionally get water out fast.
