Starrett wants 84% of what I paid new less than 2 years ago to repair it.The electronics module was blinking all the LCD elements on the screen. Tried replacing batteries to no avail.I certainly won't buy Starrett again.----------------After Starrett sent the mic back I figured I had nothing to lose so I opened it up. I removed the electronics module hoping to find a reset button. What I did find was a tiny bit of corrosion where the electronics module is suppose to ground to the body of the mic. By the way, I live in dry air Colorado, so the corrosion is a surprise. I scraped off the corrosion with my fingernail and now the mic works perfectly.So now I am even more pissed off with Starrett. They wanted $126.60 when all they needed to do was clean off a tiny bit of corrosion.I still won't buy Starrett again. Anybody want to buy a used mic?

This digital micrometer is United States made - a definite plus! Amazon, however, should have touted this source of manufacture - but did not, as is usual!That said, you have to be careful as you handle the device NOT to reset accidentally a zero setting at the maximum closure or an interim setting that allows you to read positive or negative settings from that setting.I am not sure how a handling improvement could be made, but with reasonable care in handling, this is a great instrument that measures accurately and with impressive repeatability. You can choose inches or metric readout.Moving the barrel automatically turns on the display, a nice touch. Automatic turn-off occurs after a five or ten minutes of non-use, thus conserving the battery life.
