I originally got these for cutting memory wire and other hard metals (and they're perfect for that), but I discovered that they're also great for cutting jewelry wire off the spool without leaving sharp ends. Unlike flush cutters, BOTH sides of the wire are left with nice square ends. (Sadly, the jaws are too bulky to use for cutting jump rings off a coil. You also can't use them in tight spaces, like cutting the extra tail off a wire-wrapped bead. Still, they are my favorite wire cutters.) These never get dull like all my flush cutters have (including the flush cutters made specifically for memory wire). Despite the bulky jaws, these cutters allow you to see exactly where you are cutting, so you can cut right on your mark. Also, these won't cause problems with airport security since they don't actually contain points or sharp blades. I own at least six different types of wire cutters, but these are the ones I use most.

They work for most small wires, except twisted. Don’t try that. The only thing .. sometimes it leaves a bit of a jagged end. I file it some, and that helps. I can’t make rhyme or reason why, but I can typically remedy it fairly quickly.

Great tool to use on Memory Wire as it is made to cut extra hard wire. Don’t ruin your good cutting tools on hard wire. This tool is compact in size and priced reasonably and does a great job.
