I am modifying a 70s-80s vintage Nishiki Sport (Taiwan). I was going to use the original Dia Compe levers, but the cable anchor was stuck in one of them. I wanted to shorten my time, so I went for these. They fit perfectly. They sit where I need them. They allow me with no problems to rode on the hoods. Just as when I went through the process of obtaining a CDL, I am relearning both bicycle mechanics and bicycle handling. I did not remember that I am supposed to operate the brakes with two fingers. These allow me to do this very elementary technique.I am 64, and coming back to riding, I found myself contending with cyclists palsy. I had had the symptoms before, but now that I understand the workings of the body a bit more, I knew this was something that should not be ignored, if I did not want permanent damage.

These are the classic hand brakes used on bikes in the 1980’s. Superior Shimano, quality workmanship. In a world where hand brake/shifter combos have become absolutely massive, these reasonably sized levers and hoods are refreshing. Inner spring helps the levers snap back into place and easy, “aerodynamic” installation. Their diminutive size has to be more aero than the big clunkers on modern bikes. Oh, and they work great paired with Shimano 105 or Ultegra calipers. Great upgrade for any single speed, drop bar bike.

This is basically the same lever as the 105s I’ve been using on my other bike since the early ‘90s. Excellent comfort and braking. Only four stars, due to the rattling internal parts that my 105s have never been prone to.I use these on a drop bar MTB that is mostly ridden on gravel trails. It’s a very standard process to install and they include cables and housings. For those wondering, standard road levers like these work fine with cantilever and U-brakes, which are what my gravel bike has. They will not work very well with linear pull or V-brake, because they have higher mechanical advantage and shorter pull than levers designed for linear pull brakes.I noticed the rattle on the very first ride. The washers on either side of the wire hook are a bit loose and able to vibrate, as is that small white plastic piece mounted in the shell directly above the wire hook. Some have removed that plastic piece. At this point, I’m just silencing the vibration with some grease on those internal parts.

This is a great replacement lever for an old road bike. It is much better than what was on there previously. The machining on these is great and they work perfectly. They were easy to install and have been a joy to ride. Definitely remove the grey plastic piece or glue it down, it does rattle on bumps. It is not as wide as the STI shifters on newer bike but they look sleeker. Good value when you factor in the included housing and cables.

These levers are awesome. They are super sturdy and feel like they are very high quality. There is some weight to them, but they aren't overly heavy, the weight simply makes them feel like they were better built.I ride a single speed bike and these are perfect for my bike. When I got drops on my bike, I realized I needed a set of levers for my brakes and I upon my research, these seemed to be the best ones. Shimano makes some of the best high-end bike components in the world and although these aren't priced at $500 like the Dura-Ace STI shifters, these are perfect for single-speed bikes.I have crashed my bike with them and have only scratched the lever, but that's about it. They still work as smoothly as they did on day one. I highly recommend these levers. Also, the package comes with the two levers, cables and cable housing. ENJOY!

I purchased and installed these a month or two ago. It only took a few minutes to install with some new handle bars. I have not had ANY rattling at all; not sure what the other reviewers are referring to. Thinking they might have installed improperly. These were a great addition to my single speed when i decided to add drop handle bars. love love love them.PS, the brakes came with new cabling and the rubber cable covers. No need to purchase additional. VERY easy to install.I posted a photo to show how they look installed. It is the one with the orange grip tape.

I read many reviews about these levers saying that they had a rattling. I received them and sure enough there was a small rattling sound when shaken. I knew it would drive me crazy to hear that constantly on the road, so I tried to figure out what was making this noise, and finally realized it was a small gray plastic part that covers the spring inside the lever. I assume it's there for a reason, but I can't decide what that reason could be. Either aesthetically to hide the spring or maybe to block it from having debris entering it when the brakes are depressed? Who knows. I simply got a small knife and popped them out--problem solved. You could probably super glue them down so they don't rattle too. After installing my NON-rattling levers, I could not have been happier. They are beautiful, the hoods feel great, and the included cables and housing are top quality. Lots of bang for your buck on these babies. Just takes about 5 minutes of extra work to get that rattly plastic out!
