Maximum material thickness application is 16 gauge (0.060") Please note that these will not punch the hole. This tool will dimple an existing pre-cut hole. The hole will need to be cut into the material to then allow this tool to dimple the edge.

I’ve done over 22 holes with it and a little thicker than recommended and this works great. Centers perfect.

This is a quality heavy duty die but has a design flaw that I would personally change. As a previous customer stated the die worked good but be careful not to stretch the bolt. The problem is the threads on the female portion of the die. Not sure how many holes the set is designed to do but I had a 102 holes. On the last hole the threads pulled out on the female portion of the die. I just drilled the hole out with a 3/8 inch bit and now use a bolt and nut with a washer head and it works fine and should last forever. That's the way the dimple die for dzus fasteners works. Lot cheaper using new bolts every so many holes versus buying a new die set when the threads give way. I even used lube and a thread chaser to keep the threads clean. But as I say again as designed those threads are only going to last so long. Bye it, use it then when the threads fail drill out and use a bolt and nut. I don't think you can wear the die out as the pieces are pretty stout. I did order a spare for backup but after modifying my original I don't think I'll ever need it.

All I can say is i would never even try to use these on steel. I dimpled about 20 holes in 16ga aluminum and they stripped out. I drilled them out and welded a nut on the back to get the job done.

I had my reservations about this type of die. I'd heard that the type you use a hydraulic press with work much better. To my surprise this little thing worked like a charm. 16 GA is definitely the thickest you can go. I used 16 Ga tread plate which is arguably thicker in some areas where the diamond plate is. It worked very well for my application - a foot pedestal for my 1961 Econoline Pickup Hot-Rod. The radius was sharp and well defined. With thin sheet metal you will notice some deformation that you will have to straighten after you've done all your holes. Lastly, be careful not to over-tighten the bolt. It comes with a Grade 8 bolt but if you're not careful you can stretch it (as me how I know..... : - ) Just keep an eye on the gap between the die and the sheet and stop tightening when there's no gap.
