My son loves the boa system and I can appreciate it as well. I was unsure it would stand up to wear and tear of a pre-teen, but that part has done very well. The problem is the construction of the rest of the shoe. He’s had 2 pairs now and they’ve both deteriorated very quickly. I would love to see the boa system on a higher quality shoe. He has had much better durability with other brands, but I understand the attraction of the boa system; and that part has worked well on both pairs.

Poor stitching - flap to tighten pulled away from shoe. Waste of good money.

My 10 year old son loves the BOA lace system, and the shoes are comfortable. Longevity not yet known. I purchased them based on the lacing system honestly, as I use it on some of my technical boots and I know it’s bulletproof and easy to use for kids. These shoes are NOT Velcro, they only use the boa system for easy on/off and simplicity. You don’t need Velcro trust me, these latch on to your feet and will not come off when tightened.

Have worn these for years and years - they wear fast when you trail run much but they still hold up well. Best in lace version. Only had one sole detachment through the years and sadly the company had zero response to this occurrence. The Velcro version is hassle free kid play and great grip for cornering even on schoolgrounds. The Velcro does deteriorate with use and sometimes just clearing it with comb is not enough, a single strap is simply not good enough So this three stripe design would be amazing with velcro But this is fun and function use for kids However we did have it get nicked against a surface on a trek and the dial unit unclipped loosening the shoe abruptly - pretty unsafe and now it's a bit of a concern for possible injury....
