It is bright, adding flare to the gathering. It provides shade without hindering air flow. It would be nice if they had the option of a right triangle, which would work better in some situations.

We have had a few of these. We live in Colorado where the sun is strong and beats down on surfaces, so needed something to shade the composite deck where pups wait to come in house after doing their business. This is inexpensive option to keep their feet happy.

I used to shade the Barbecue area, it lasted 2 yearsI do not recommend using water and bleach it will dissolve the stitches.

I bought this to put additional shade over an area where we park our cars. The manufacturer of the shade sail that I bought didn't have anymore available on Amazon so I tried this one. The color is a little bit darker than the one I bought, but it also appears to be a little more water repellent, that is, when it's raining it takes a little longer for the drops to get through if it's a light rain. Of course with a heavy shower, water comes through but it still keeps off some of it.
