This is an excellent quality patio shade cloth. It has a stainless steel cable that is sewn into the perimeter with metal corner brackets that it is routed around. When attached the cable is pulled tight and doesn’t depend on the strength of the fabric to hold it up. Only issue is I wish it came in more colors! Great product and I will probably purchase this again when needed. It’s been up 2 months now in hot dry and windy conditions with no issues at all.

Upon receiving the 18' x 24' solar sail, I immediately noticed that the sail wires were extending 8 inches beyond the sail's Super Ring at each corner (see photo 1). This became problematic when trying to tighten the sail to make it taut. Two corners were to be attached to the house with D rings and two attached to post with ratcheting mounts (see photos 2 and 3). To tighten the sail's perimeter cables and have the cable slip into the Super Ring's groove, I had to remove the house's ventilated vinyl soffit trim at the D ring locations and attach ratcheting straps to the house's framing. With the four corners each having a ratcheting connection, I could now stretch the sail taut. It is best to work each of the four corners a little at a time. Yes, there's more up and down ladders, but in the end it gives a better result. With the sail being tight, I could then attach the stainless steel rings and turnbuckles at the D rings and remove the temporary ratcheting straps (see photo 4). Also, prior to installing the sail, I had added 2" x 6" framing to the rafter tails and used 2 1/2" screws to attach the two D rings to the house's trim area. Each house is different in finding suitable strong points and making the proper alterations to provide a safe location for the D rings. I allowed 12" at each of the D rings and 16" at each of the posts beyond the sail's size of 18' x 24'. It is now a cooler space to park our car.

The shade is very thick and the cables integration is very well thought out. The hoops on the end are attached to the fabric, it seems to be a good connection. The only downside to this shade is the weight. It will take a lot of tension to get it tight. Use heavy hardware and back guy wood post or use large steel post in concrete.

This shade is noticeably higher quality than others I’ve used and certainly appears like it’s going to last a long time. I have another lesser quality shade next to it, and the Royal Shade coverage is significantly cooler with better overall coverage (less gaping between the shade and the wall of my home).
