The cable is fine. The 30ft draws an average of 192 watts at 30 degrees. It really doesn't self adjust that much, just 5 to 10 watts at lower temps. That's compared to another brand I have that draw 165 watts at the same temp.My problem is that it has a built in thermostat. The description does not disclose and I thought mine was defective when it didn't heat at room temperature. I had to contact support to learn that it doesn't turn on until temp drops below 41 degrees. They claim it turns of at 57 degrees. I found that to be inconsistent. It shut off for me some days at 41, some days in the 50s, and some days not at all. I'm not using mine for ice, so I didn't really want built in thermostat. The price is great at 21.99 but the description needs to be more complete
