The ball on the end of the tiller came off and was lost on the third time sailing in my laser. Without the ball, the end of the tiller has a dangerous metal edge. Other posters have already raised the same issue, and apparently nothing has been done to improve manufacturing. Impossible to return or get a replacement through Amazon as I am no past “return period.” I had a Ronstan for 15 years before buying this one, never had a problem.

Works well on my daysailer but the end ball detached the second time out. I epoxied it back in place and it's now solid. My friend bought one and the same thing happened to his.

Seems like a well-made tiller extension, at 33" the perfect size for my 6' beam sailboat. But at the end has a large rubber ball so this sits very high above the tiller and the Ronstan retainer clip is far too short to hold it in place. I haven't seen a tiller retainer clip tall enough to work with this extension. Not bad in the end: I removed the rubber ball and put in a coil of velcro, matched to a similar velcro on the tiller: much easier to lock the extension in place than with a clip and unlikely to break.

A great tiller extension at a good price.

Made a shorter version out of a ski pole. Couldn't see cutting the $65 version.

This works as designed. It's light and the rubber joint is flexible. You need to have a line or bungee to secure it out of the way when it's not needed. This would probably be a must for dingy racers, but for the recreational sailing I do, the one I made out of spare teak on my last boat would have done well enough, cost a lot less and looked classier attached to the wood tiller.

At first I was taken aback by the omnidirectional rubber neck, thinking it could break in a short time. But it's really effortless to use & seems quite tough while flexible in all directions. Great for moving about in a cockpit .
