Solid Bass and build. Needs wheels, on the bottom (ones that pop down, when ready to roll).

Run 2 of theese off of an rp9 amp and plan on using them for live shows, They sound great paired with some mids and highs.Just ordered 2 more to see how many people's hair I can get to move.Smaller than I thought but they pump out the sound. Light enough for a one person carry. Seem sturdy and durable enough.

It doesn’t produce deep bass compared to actual subwoofers. My 12” pioneer subwoofer that cost only about $30 produced noticeable deeper bass than this Rockville 18” pa woofer. The Rockville 18” definitely has more punch and sometimes too much. Usually bigger speakers have bigger bass because of a lower resonance but not with this speaker. Even my ancient dahlquist DQ-8’s with only an 8” woofer in each speaker seemed to have a deeper bass tone to it. The Rockville’s seems to be engineered to accurately produce the bass guitar notes and kick drums in rock and metal but not the 808 bass drops heard in most hip hop songs. And the description is misleading. It said it has a frequency response from all the way down 20hz to 500hz. Then I got the box and it said 30hz. Then I put my test tones on and it didn’t go any lower than 40hz. Then I took the grill off and covered up one of the ports in an attempt to tune it down and it only made a decibel or two difference which was better than nothing. This speaker produces mid range better than it does the sub bass frequencies. That was a big disappointment for me. I’m still surprised if I give my 12” pioneer subwoofer a full signal and this Rockville a full range signal the Rockville will basically produce all the mid range and nearly inaudible bass below 60hz and the pioneer will continue to produce deep bass with barely audio mid range. So even when using a low pass filter the Rockville still doesn’t produce the boom I’m looking for. The transient response is very fast though so the kicks sound very punchy with little to no hangover. So it depends if what kind of music you listen to for how these speakers will do you. In my current system I also got 4 15’s in addition to two of these Rockville 18’s and the 15’s definitely hit the sub bass frequencies while the Rockville adds some extra clarity to the bass which is kinda nice but for some reason the Rockville seems to have some cancellation issue no matter how I wire the polarity. You get what you pay for though since these were the cheapest 18’s I could find so it’s not too bad honestly. But then I got some new 15” planet audio subwoofers to replace the I previously had because one of the Rockville was damaged in the shipping. Basically both 15’s were roughly $50 each yet the Rockville produced noticeably more midrange and little sub-bass while the planet audio surprisingly produced bass nearly as powerful and deep as my power acoustic mofo 15”.Basically, these can be used to produce midrange and mid bass. If you’re looking for a speaker that produces subwoofer frequencies like below 60hz then you will most likely be disappointed. Not recommended at all for hip hop music unless you are adding this to your system which already includes actual subwoofers. This is a woofer. Not a subwoofer.

So, the main thing is... You WILL need a crossover for these. I just wanted to add a little warmth and was getting so much muddy main sound through them that to get the bass to where it needed to be (just for an acoustic duo) there was a lot of mid/high frequency coming through them that sounded horrible. I have other bass cabs I've built without a crossover. Played straight they play bass tones with quiet mids and highs. You can run them with your mains. These will compete with your mains with muddy volume without a crossover. With a crossover I think they're an amazing value.

It shorted out my amp when I first plugged it in. 1/4” jacks were mis-wired. Shorted. After a quick rework, everything worked as expected. Sounds great. Good build quality otherwise. Played first gig with them today. Super happy after the rework.

Great sound for the price point!I put together a small PA system to help our local school with dances (they couldn't afford a DJ). I am pushing these with a powered amp and for a gym, they bring the thump. I did modify by adding rubber casters to the bottom to make them easier to handle. Glad I did that as they can be rolled into position. So far so good and I have played at least 6 or so dances with these. You can get a really good hit with nothing more than a simple EQ and a moderate powered amp. Great investment! Also, at that price point, if you blow a speaker you didn't pay much more than you would for a decent cabinet! My only complaint is one speaker showed up with a smashed grill, minor damage. The box was NOT damaged so it wasn't handling issues. I have not been able to pull the grill back out but it isn't impacting the sound so I'm not too worried about it.

Received subs, boxed individually with foam corners to help prevent shipping damage. The cartons were not even scratched. Opened up and the subs are inside yet another carton.Pulled them out and the cabinets are well made, sturdy and heavy, which is a good thing for a sub cabinet. For the price, I am impressed at the sound pressure they produce, and the true wattage these subs can handle,1000 watts each at 8 ohms is correct and with a sensitivity of 96db that seems correct also which is what a great speaker system requires. Still don't know how this possible for the price. I'm comparing them side by side with Peavey 15" sub cabs at 91db sensitivity and there is a louder response from the Rockville's so, I don't have access to testing equipment to positively know for sure but my ears are not lying to me.. I also tried them full range and WOW, they blew a large room out with very clean sound so they do NOT have a built in crossover for sure. Use 'em as PA cabs if you have a mixer/equalizer or subs. Pushing way less than 1000 watts to each cabinet was all I could stand, my head was ready to explode! And was deaf for a while too.Had to do it, and will probably repeat! My only gripe is the cabinets "new car smell" is horrible, some sort of nasty "manufacturing?"chemical odor emanating from them that has permeated a large room for 2 weeks now, it is finally dissipating and going away(airing out).. It didn't make me sick or kill me yet so:)We'll see how long they'll last because of their price they perform like thousand dollar speakers, but they're not! 5 stars for now...
