I thought these weights were a gimmick but I can hear that it is actually keeping some resonance from being transferred into the tone arm. I bought it for the level but I use it every time. Very well worth the 12 bucks.

This particular style is a bit heavy so I don't recommend it for belt drive turntables. There are some that are thinner and lighter for those units. I use this one with a direct drive turntable that has high torque. I suppose you can use it with some belt drive turntables but not if your belt is loose. Anyways just keep the vinyl nice and snug on the platter giving you a better sound and a higher quality base response from your vinyl records. If you have some records that are a bit warped this will help flatten them out while they're playing. It's kind of tall so you may not be able to close your lid while it's playing on all turntables make sure you look at the measurements it's got a fantastic shine mirror finish and it is absolutely gorgeous in person makes the record player look really nice

Given the price, I wasn't expecting much, but it is very attractive, very weel crafted and works great! The level is so handy too.
