The Proform Tall Valve Spring Height Micrometer measures installed valve spring height. Fits most V8 engines. Install the height micrometer instead of a valve spring. Rotate the engraved dial to expand the tool to seat valve, locks and retainer.

Worked perfectly. I received a black one, not that it matters. It does the job well.7.3 powerstroke.

The tool feels a little bindy but the main issue is the measurement isn't right ...if your retainer sits inside the top of the tool you need to subtract about .100" off the installed height. This information doesn't come with the tool at all and isn't readily available anywhere even in their videos which is crazy. I'll be returning it

The Proform 66902 Tall Valve Spring Height Micrometer that I received was manufactured in Taiwan not China and was dead on in accuracy.

... but it doesn't work with LS dual spring retainers. I ended up having to shim the underside of the spring retainer then subtract it off the overall length. A real pain in the rear.

Worked perfectly and seems to be made well. I checked and it is within .001 accurate.

I just received this micrometer and have not used it yet. However, it seems easy to read and appears accurate when checked with a vernier caliper. That said, I would appreciate knowing what the depth of the inner step is. As it happens, small block Chevy retainers will not sit on the upper edge of the micrometer; instead, they will sit on the inner step. With the retainer on the step, the user needs to subtract the step depth from the indicated height in order to get the true spring height. So, it would be very helpful if Proform would publish that depth dimension. I guess the depth could be measured with a dial indicator, but that's another piece of equipment, and another potential source of measurement error. Retainers of this size are pretty common, so I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue.

I retired from cylinder heads and found that I enjoyed working at my pace. This tool is a must at a reasonable price.
