I got the chance to try this out yesterday. The power steering pump on the El Camino has been leaking and making noise. I wanted to change the pump before a complete failure broke the belt and left me stranded. The Saginaw pumps on GM vehicles usually need to be pulled off the pump and put on the new one. I've ruined more than one pulley trying to remove it without the proper puller. I sometimes borrow a puller from the tool library at the auto parts store, but sometimes it's gone. I ordered this puller hoping that it would save me from that problem. This puller worked great and got the job done. It looks identical to the puller I borrow. Now, I don't have to worry about borrowing one or if they even have it because someone borrowed it. So convenient to have my own!

I've used similar tools, like identical ones, in the past. For whatever reason this one just couldn't extract the pulley from my PS pump (4.8L Chevy Silverado '99). Perhaps it was just seized on that bad. I eventually tried heating the hub of the pulley with a torch but it still wouldn't release. The tool eventually would get slanted and just pop off pulley (pictured). I gave up and torched a hole in the pulley to get the bolts out to remove it from the bracket with the alternator and idler puller. I got a new pulley from the auto parts store and used the installation tool to press it on the new pump. That worked fine, no complaints. So, I'm not going to completely fault the tool since I didn't have another one to try extracting the pulley with.

Well-constructed but havent used it yet since its still very cold here. I didnt want the effort of renting one so decided to order my own. Grateful that it actually comes with a decent case, Ive gotten a lot of cheap/Chinese branded tools that while the tools themselves are nice, dont come with any case or even travel bag. Really silly. This has a sturdy case that is decently compact, for what it is.

This tool is great and the price is awesome. If you are a mechanic this is a must have.

This is just what I needed to remove AND install my power steering pump pulley on my Dodge Charger. The pump bolts were accessible thru holes on the pulley so I removed my old pump from the car first.This puller/installer will last for many years if you never use it, or if you simply put grease on the threads before you do use it. I use one wrench and one ratchet to remove and install the pulley. Power tools are likely to damage the puller and install tools.
