After owning their other 2.5Gbps USB to Ethernet Adapter (USBC-E2500) model for 4 years, I decided to upgrade to this model as soon as I noticed it was released. I think I have gotten it to work to a stable state (Still crossing fingers). I was trying and testing different settings on Windows 11 for a day and half until I got it to stay connected reliably, however it took A lot of trial an error. What finally got things working correctly on Windows 11 was the following:1- Completely remove the official Puglable driver using their own installer, which works to both install/remove and repair the driver. The Windows built-in tool to remove the driver didn't do it properly.2- Reboot the PC3- Go Network and Internet Settings in Windows 11, then advanced network settings, then expand the network adapter settings for this device's connection so you can see the "More Adapter Options" click on "Edit", then highlight "Client for Microsoft Networks", then click on Configure on top left, then on the new Window click on the "Advanced" tab. On this tab, we are going to change the following two settings, First "Jumbo Frame" select "Disabled" Second, we must click "Speed & Duplex" and set it to "Auto Negotiation".4- Now go ahead and install Plugable's Win 11 Driver for their 2.5Gbps USB to Ethernet Adapter (USBC-E2500). I was told by their support team that this new 5gb adapter runs on the same technology and that I should download and install this same driver. They will be updating their download site soon to point to the right driver.5- Reboot PC.Please note that if you didn't own any of their other adapters, you might not need to do steps 1 and 2 above. After doing the above, I'm getting the fastest speeds possible from my 2.5gb fiber connection.Another negative is that at least on my current Linux installation, this device doesn't work, While I had no issues at all using the other USBC-E2500 2.5gb model, but perhaps this is a specific issue with the distribution of Linux I'm using (Deepin V23).

This review is for the "Plugable 5Gbps USB-C Ethernet Adapter | 5000Mbps Wired Network for Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS Laptops and Desktops | Realtek RTL8157 | Supports CAT6, CAT6a and CAT7 Cables (USBC-E5000)" that I ordered via the Vine program.I've been upgrading the connection speeds for the workstations on my home network and needed another high-speed Ethernet adapter for a machine that only had a 1gbps port. This adapter was simple to install and worked at every speed I tested it at: 1, 2.5, and 5gbps. Windows 11 immediately recognized the device as having a Realtek chipset and immediately installed the basic needed drivers. I then ran Windows Update and installed the rest of the Realtek driver package also automatically. The adapter was configured and running a full speed within minutes.I've owned a couple of other adapters from Plugable, and this adapter is of the same high quality that I've come to expect from them. The USB C pigtail is fairly thick and not flimsy in any way. The adapter housing is plastic but very rugged. The Ethernet port is tight enough to prevent any wiggle once plugged in without being so tight as to make unplugging difficult. Overall, everything is put together with tight tolerances and attention to detail.I've had zero issues with this device and can highly recommend it to anyone needing to upgrade their Ethernet connection speeds. Just be sure that it's connected to a USB 3.0 or above port for maximum throughput.

This is a compact 5 Gbps USB-C Ethernet adapter. It offers plug-and-play functionality, with my laptop recognizing it immediately upon plugging it into the USB port. The metallic casing is a nice touch, as it helps with heat dissipation—something necessary since the adapter does heat up during use.The adapter uses a Realtek chipset, a trusted and well-established option. While testing, I connected it to a laptop and linked it to a desktop with a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port. The devices negotiated at 2.5 Gbps, likely due to the desktop's port limitation. However, using "iperf3" for speed tests with a Cat 6 Ethernet cable, I couldn't achieve speeds beyond 1 Gbps despite trying multiple Cat 6 cables. This suggests a potential limitation on my computer rather than the adapter itself, restricting the speed to 1 Gbps.Overall, this adapter is well-built and easy to use. However, users aiming for speeds above 1 Gbps may need to troubleshoot system limitations.

As laptops get smaller and thinner they tend to also have less and less ports and mostly include USB-C ports. WiFi has come a long way and can be very fast but can be less reliable with fluctuation in speeds depending on factors like range and band congestion. I like to use Ethernet as much as possible as it can provide a much more consistent connection. This 5Gbps Ethernet adapter is great! The main housing is made out of metal and feels solid, the cable has a rubber coating, it is string and flexible. Many home networks run on 1Gpbs speeds so it may not be able to use the full speed of the dongle but 2.5Gbps and 10Gbps hardware is getting cheaper and more common. Being able to hit higher speeds is really great for file transfers or working on larger files that live on network shared storage.Overall this is a great Ethernet dongle, it provides the ability to get higher and more consistent speeds when connecting to a network. I keep this dongle in my computer bag so I have it with me anywhere I go.

I recently tested out the Plugable 5Gbps USB-C Ethernet Adapter, and here's a breakdown of its features to save you scrolling through a book of details and my experience using it:The Good Stuff:- The adapter delivered fast and stable speeds. I noticed a significant improvement in file transfers and streaming compared to Wi-Fi.- It was easy to set up. I just plugged it into my laptop’s USB-C port, and it worked right away without needing extra drivers.- The compact design made it convenient to carry around. It fit easily in my bag, which was great for travel and office use.- It worked seamlessly across different devices. I tested it on Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS without any issues.- The build quality felt durable, and the space grey finish gave it a sleek, professional look.Opportunities:- To achieve the full 5Gbps speed, I needed a compatible router, switch, and Cat6a or better cables. Without these, the performance was limited.- The adapter got slightly warm during extended use, though it didn’t affect performance.- It doesn’t support Thunderbolt 3 or USB4 devices, which might limit its use for some users with those ports.Bottom Line: A reliable, fast USB-C Ethernet adapter with broad compatibility, but requires compatible hardware for top speeds.

This is working well with my Macbook Pro M1 and on my home 2.5gbps network. I have this plugged into a TB4 hub, and it has been reliable so far. No unexpected disconnects or odd behaviors. For now I'm using the driver available by default in MacOS, so this worked out of the box. With the built-in MacOS driver and on 2.5gbps LAN, I'm getting 2446mbps download and 2151mbps upload through a 2.5gb switch to my home server with a Intel-based 2.5gbps adapter. The TB4 hub, the 2.5gbps adapter on the home server, the switch, or the built-in driver could very well be limiting factors, so I'm not holding the upload performance against this. I'm satisfied with the 2.5gbps performance.I can't test 5gbps just yet, but I'm expecting to upgrade my home LAN to 10gbps in a couple months. I'll update this review if there are unexpected issues on 5gbps.

5Gbps is sort of an in-between speed from my observations. You have 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, and 10Gbps, with a subset of 10Gbps switches/devices also supporting 5Gbps. If your network doesn't have 5Gbps support, then this device won't operate at full speed. It does, however, gracefully down-select to whatever speed your network does support, so it will still work - and if/when you upgrade your network, you'll have 5Gbps capability from this device.Usage couldn't be easier - simply plug it in, and it (generally) works. They do recommend installing the latest version of the driver from their website, but this isn't required for operation. Overall, if you are looking to add high-speed ethernet to your USB-C device - especially if your network equipment supports 5Gbps speeds - this adaptor is well worth considering.

This USB-C Ethernet adapter was easy to set up — just plugged it in, and both of my laptops recognized it right away. I tested it on two different machines, and both were able to hit speeds of 2.5Gbps without any issues. I’m pretty sure my current cables are the bottleneck, so I’ll be swapping those out soon to see if I can hit the full 5Gbps speed it’s rated for.Even at 2.5Gbps, it’s been working great and noticeably faster than my older Ethernet adapter. No weird drops or connectivity issues so far, so I’m happy with it. Looking forward to testing its full potential once I upgrade my cables.
