Don't listen to those fake reviews or people who are mouth breathers who torque it and then complain when something breaks... this tool works well, does what it says, and has functioned flawlessly on my pen assemblies with many different types of wood. I haven't had to disassemble yet but that was the reason I got this and it has saved me from doing so. Great investment and stress reducer.

The Assembly & Disassembly Pen Press from PSI is all that I had hoped it would be. It is well made and thought out for Assembly & Disassembly of Pens. I have mounted it to a board I specifically made for it with felt lined groves in the front to lay Pen parts in while using the press along with several pegs behind for the hose and bushing and drilled holes for all the punches to rest in. Though not needed for this Item, I have found PSI always a pleasure to work with and has prompt responsive and courteous customer service when needed, No other company I know of has as extensive a line of assorted turning project kits and supplies.

A decade after selling off all my pen turning/making equipment I bought thePSI Woodworking PENPRESSXL Assembly & Disassembly Pen Press to replace the sold one. This tool is head and shoulders above the previous model. Quality is excellent, but its usefulness makes it one tool no kit pen turner should be without. The spring loaded anvil on a removable base is a fantastic idea making the disassembly setup a breeze. Using this tool is easy for both assembling pens/pencils and taking them apart when a repair is needed. Not just a handy tool, but a money-saving one, to boot.

If you're turning pens/pencils then you may want to think about investing the money in this device. Not so much for the pen press and putting them together but because you can quickly and easily disassemble others that may have been assembled incorrectly which is a great thing. I had just started turning pens before Christmas to give as gifts(though I had been turning other things for some time) and I somehow mis-assembled several pens that were fairly costly. Not wanting to just chalk it up to a learning experience I bought this device and within a few minutes of it arriving i had completely taken apart all those I had messed up. That meant the press has already paid for itself and then some which is always a good thing.I was then able to use it to assemble a pen just to see how it went and I really like how it works. It's completely adjustable for the various sizes you'll work with and can be done on the fly without needing to screw or unscrew any bolts, wimgnuts etc...The one issue I had while disassembling the pens was on a few it didn't just push the parts of the pen out, it pushed out the brass tube with the part still attached which obviously isn't great. In those instances I simply reglued the whole thing together again and waited until 24 hours to ensure it setup and then tried again. I was able to get all but one brass tube off that way and for the last one I simply put the tube in my vice and gently tightened it WITH the largest punch I could fit inside the tube so that it would be crushed and then I tapped at the punch with a hammer. It took a bit but it too finally came out.For those who want to make pens, even if you're only making a few here and there, this press will be a welcome addition to your workbench.

This press is a life saver, especially if one needs to disassemble a pen for any reason. I was able to salvage more than one pen by disassembling and rebuilding. The adjustment for accepting different lengths to press is very easy, and the press assembles the parts flawlessly. The leverage afforded by the long handle provides ease of use and accurate pressing of the twist mechanism. The fact that this tool offers both assembly and disassembly puts it in a league of its own. I am very satisfied.

Good product for the price. Takes a few minutes to figure out how to use. Disassembling process is little unusual. I was apprehensive about using the rubber tube that goes over the pen blank which is then place into the clamp. Then pen is then secured by tightened the clamp bolts. But it does work without damaging the blanks, but obviously the clamp should be tightened enough to hold the blank. Realistically, it doesn’t take much force on the included rods to disassemble the pen. Both assembly or disassembly only take a few minutes and fear of cracking a blank is now almost nonexistent for me.

I got a lathe a year ago and have made close to a hundred pens so far. Didn’t think I needed a pen press until a started seeing some imperfections from my previous process. Pens have stepped up a notch with this. Some kits can get wonky if you don’t push them in straight by hand. This solves that. Easy to use and easy to push in just a little while fine tuning the depth of the pen point.Disassembly, the main reason I bought this one over others. Works great. I was able to disassemble a slimline pro gel pen, which is basically impossible by hand. I cut a small length of the rubber tube and have used it half a dozen times. I expect it will last until I loose it. Any generic padding should work fine. I may get fancy and use a neoprene sleeve in the future for added protection. It can still marr a wood blank, so it can be difficult on some kits to clamp it down *only just enough*.
