...Just include the wood of your choice and mandrel everything onto your favorite lathe. High quality machining and manufacturing, which is appreciated. You don't want to sped all that time making a beautiful but useless pen. These are GREAT, and really do include all the physical pieces you'll be putting in a finalized pen. They even include a punch of well stitched real leather pockets to place the pens in when done so you can give them out as personalized gifts. Even the ink is great. VERY high quality pen kits. Now to just pick a wood type....

I only got a lathe a short while ago, so I hadn't yet tried doing anything like a pen. This kit seemed like a good opportunity to give it a try. I was exceptionally pleased with the instructions that came with this kit as a beginner. You don't often see instructions included with items anymore, let alone good ones like these. The pens write smoothly and clearly and were easy to work with and assemble. I'm sure they aren't the best you can get, but at $3 each, they are an excellent value.

This is an ok basic set to get you into pen turning. You aren't going to make any heirloom quality pens from this basic set, but you can make 10 decent enough pens to give out as gifts to friends and family. The ink works and it even includes a faux leather cover for each pen.

I like that there is a couple of different colors for the hardware, so you can pick which one looks best with the wood you are turning.I only wish that the kit included the proper bushing to turn the pens down to.

As an avid pen turner, these came up on my Vine product list and I couldn't resist, although I have dozens of Slim Line kits already. The kits come in a smart looking box which was under-sized for the complimentary pen sleeves that were included. The box being small made the sleeves have to wrap around the corners and thus wouldn't lay flat. That really is a non-issue once the pen is inserted. I liked the beige faux leather, better than those cheap black plastic or velour like sleeves commonly available. All the parts are isolated from each other to prevent scratching. The chrome and gold (5 of each) are as expected, nothing fancy about these. All the components fit together properly. As the Slim Line model goes these are perfectly fine.If you're new to pen turning, a comprehensive one page (2-sides) instruction sheet is included. My only qualm is that they're not a bargain. You can get these kits for under their $3 price point, and better, if you watch for sales. However, the addition of pen sleeves mitigates that a little.

While you can certainly get a far better quality kit, you will also pay a heftier price for that kit. This is a really nice pen kit, complete with faux leather sleeves for your pen projects. It comes with a very nice set of instructions for beginners but the quality is good for all but the highest quality turned pens. The parts are well made and the clip is pretty good quality.Once you know what you are doing, you can crank out a set of pen barrels in a few minutes. Turning barrels isn’t that difficult. If you are trying to have a pen business, you’ll either have a computer controlled lathe or jigs that make the process even faster. For me, I turn wood for fun and these kits are the right quality for my needs.Could the kit be better? There is always better. But again, you’ll also be paying more.Nothing really to critique. Good parts, well packaged in individual bags, ink flows well, faux leather pen case.5 stars from me.

These pen turning kits aren't worth the effort. Yes, the parts can assemble into a functional pen. But, given the amount of time and effort needed to turn a blank and wax/stain/seal the wood, it makes no sense to top it off with such low quality hardware like what is in these kits. The tips are all plastic. The cap may be cheap pot metal, or it might just be plastic, too. And, the clip is the cheapest, thinnest bit of folded over tin that should you even look at it sideways, this thing is going to crumple

I have a rotary attachment for my CNC on order, but it will be a while before I get it. Therefore, this review is based on inspection of the parts, quality of the instructions, etc.Well the instructions blew me away. Only one page (front and back), but very thorough - I'm confident I could make the pens with these instructions alone should there be no such thing as the internet. This is a refreshing change from so many products I see today.I took the protective tip (of wax maybe?) off of one of the pen cores and it wrote beautifully. I know the custom made pen bodies will be the main attraction of these pens, but it would certainly be disappointing to have a great looking pen that didn't function well. No concern of that issue with this set.The product description makes it clear the covers are FAUX leather and there is no confusing these with real leather. However, the stitching is good and the pens are going to be the main attractions for those who might receive as gifts. I would consider these more of a bonus that folks could use or not - I for one will use at least some of them. All of the rest of the parts (tubes, tips, clips, etc.) look top notch.Highly RecommendedItem: Pen Kits for Woodturning 10 Pack Premium Gold-Silver with Bonus 10 Pen Covers Pen Making Tools with Black Ink Pen Making Kit Slimline Pen Turning Supplies Twist Pen Kit Lathe Turning Supplies for DIY
