I have had French Presses for years, including a plastic camp type. I purchased the OXO one a yr ago but the plastic has discolored, became easily scratched and the rubber plunger seal is now letting coffee grounds in my coffee. It worked well when I first purchased it. I like being able to add water, throw it into the microwave to heat up the water and then add coffee. I ended up purchasing a stainless steel model. There are some drawback from solid stainless in terms of not being able to see the amount of coffee left but, I am certain I will be able to use the stainless steel for more than one year. To be fair, the stainless was nearly double this one but.. Don't expect years of use from this press.

Quality is fine and it works as expected, but I give a negative review of its use for "travel" (camping in particular). It is too hard to clean, partially when water is limited. Clean out in an RV is also likely to be a sink cloggier. If you have used a French Press in the past (and liked it) this might be perfect for you (plastic not very breakable and press worked well), but if like me you think it would be more convenient than a malleda-type coffee drip funnel with filter, thick again!

Purchased to take on camping trips. Works great, high quality and durable. Lightweight so it’s easy to travel with. I’m a big fan of OXO products.

I like the the oxo products, but this press was made out of plastic & it’s just not what I expected.

I bought this French press to take camping and it's perfect. It can make about 4 cups of coffee, very easy to clean, and feels very sturdy. I wouldn't be afraid to drop or break this.No grinds, just delicious coffee. Would recommend.

Purchased for traveling. It is durable, easy to clean, and made great coffee during three weeks on the road. Used it daily to make three 6 oz. cups of coffee. Much better than anything the hotels or motels provide and it was great to have for the few nights we camped. Much easier than traveling with a glass press.

This item is not cheap to buy, and yet it is very cheaply made. The whole thing is made from plastic. I had expected the outer casing to be plastic, to serve as a buffer for the glass container inside. But there is no glass container inside. Using boiling/hot water in a plastic container is risky at best. I certainly won't be making coffee, or anything else in this French Press. Extremely disappointed with this product.

I used this nearly every day on a 2-week trip in New Zealand. Was able to make our own coffee and save money (and drink coffee the way we liked it). Have also used for car camping trips as well as in hotel rooms. I used to bring along my glass French press before but now with this unbreakable plastic version I am more comfortable bringing it just about everywhere.

This is a very good French Press. They used quality materials. I have had many coffee makers of all kinds. I have a keuirig and bonjour 12 cup French press as well. This little guy is awesome. If you take care of it, by washing it gently with warm water and a paper towel or a Dobie pad, it won’t get scratched. The plastic is not thin at all. The screen has a gasket ( silicone?) around it that keeps the grounds from sneaking through. Also it helps keep the coffee hot as you steep it. It says 8 cups. I think it makes up to 3 10 ounce mugs full of black coffee. The coffee pot will hold 4 full measuring cups of water. . So if you like a bunch of milk in your coffee, it would serve 3 - 4 people. I use 21/2 Tabs of French Roast coffee for 3 1/2 cups of water. I use decaf Peet’s coffee from Amazon Fresh. Delicious and strong. Other coffees take more than that to produce a strong espresso brew. I don’t like weak coffee. Im buying a few more of these for each of my adult kids and 1 for camping. This one I use for my morning Joe. Tips: The carafe does slide out for washing. so when you put it back, make sure the spout is centered with the oxo emblem. Push the plunger down slowly to avoid splash burns. Hand wash gently, and don’t use a very find grind coffee. —- only one negative. There are no cup markings on the carafe, so you have to use a measuring cup for your water before you boil it, to get consistent results.

When they say 'makes eight cups' = that's eight 4 oz cups.Carafe holds 32 oz which leaves 1" for coffee grounds - PhotoOur family uses 12 oz cups = so for us that's 2 1/2 cups of coffee. We like 2 tablespoons coffee / ground coco per 8 oz. water. With using 8 tablespoons (or 10 T if ya add some for the pot) to 32 oz water, fills the pot. That amount of grounds is approx 1" deep in bottom. The plunger will press up to 1/2" from bottom. So = all the goodness IS squeezed out.> If ya make only 12 oz - the grounds aren't deep enough in the bottom for the plunger to touch - Photoit presses down to 1/4" from bottom. - PhotoBUT all liquid pours out - none is trapped as is the case with some other brands - Photo> Feel this is a five star product - even though*>>> *Has a very large / spacious handle with outside rubber grip. (inside opening 2" D - 4" L) .Over-all - 8 1/2" T - 4" dia, PLUS handle sticks out 2 1/4" from cup.A careful packer will make it fit - but this is a lot of handle for travel / camping.BPA free = the holder is impact resistant plastic / carafe is dishwasher safe, tritan plastic.> Windows shows coffee levels - Photo> Plunger comes apart to clean> Spout has secondary filter - however no grounds got past the plunger> Comfortable rubberized non-slip knob - makes using easier.

Let me first say that this review is base on daily in-home, and occasional camping use. I have tried a number of different methods of preparing coffee, and the french press method is my favorite. Of the french press coffee makers, I have a Bodum Brazil that I have had for about three years, a Stanley that I have had a few months, and the OXO Venture that I have had for about 2 months. I like to use an item daily for at least a month before forming an opinion just to give them a fair chance. I can honestly say this one outshines the ones I have tried. It functions well, just like the Bodum, but is much easier to clean. The carafe is essentially a beaker that slides out of the pitcher type holder. Simply slide out the plunger and carafe, rinse and wipe dry. Done. The plunger fits well, and so does the carafe. Just enough friction to keep it well seated. It seems to retain heat fairly well, and even direct contact with the carafe only feels very warm. A word of warning though. I think others that experience cracking of the carafe are likely washing this in the dishwasher. Other items I have owned with a similar plastic did exhibit cracking after a few cycles in the dishwasher.
