Some of the hardware is made of super cheap aluminum which arrived seized and crimped to each other. Iād spend a little more money and get something else.

These are Origin8 so I was expecting the same okay quality low end parts. I first installed these on a cruiser bike with painted rims and the performance was very lacking. I chalked it up to the pained rims. I later installed these on a regular cruiser with standard rims and the performance was still lacking, that is if the seven speed is in low gear you can still pedal with both brakes fully engaged. For reference they started from a 2mm offset from the rim. These led me to measure the brake levers which are around 2 inches from the rotational axis, most brakes levers (avid, shimano) are around 1.5 inches. Secondly the brake pads are just trashy hard rubber.Pros:Cheap, and I mean cheap not inexpensive. Okay, this should be a conComes as a complete setCons:CheapLevers have weak geometerBrake pads are weak and should be replacedI'd swap the lever our for anything betterInstructions are useless (Applicable if you need them)I would only ever use this on something I plan to ride on flat ground and would absolutely never take these into the mountains or on any serious grade. Your life is worth more than $40. I will be replacing the pads and lever on both sets of these which will really not make them worth the $40 I payed

Dramatically better stopping power than cantilever brakes on an old bike and much easier to adjust/replace pads. Wish I had bought these years ago.You probably need a wire cutter (or brake cable cutter), hex/allen keys, and a pliers for the installation, otherwise the package has all the necessary bike hardware required for installation.NOTE: brake levers support a grip about 3 fingers wide on an adult hand (not a full 4/hand), but you need less power to activate these than cantilever or caliper style brakes - it seems appropriate for the style.

When I swapped over the shifters from some Shimano Acera brake/trigger shifters on my wife's bike, I needed to find a good means to ensure she can stop safely and confidently. The price was great considering the product and needs for her bike, installation was easy with minimal fuss and no major issues overall. They stop as good as the previous brakes (they're probably all built by the same supplier), but they do exactly what we need them to do, stop safely and confidently.

Seems to be good quality and installed as expected. Had to re-tighten the cables after a week, I guess due to stretch so be aware of this before turning your kids loose with the bike and forgetting about it. One warning: the supplied cables are VERY LONG. I used the old outer cable on the front and the outer cable supplied for the front (the shorter one) on the rear. You might want to be prepared to obtain proper length cables as I don't think looping them around all over the place is a good idea. You'll need small allen wrenches, a phillips head and something to cut the inner cables which are very thin. Also some tie wraps for securing things may help as I used a few. Be patient, the return spring tension adjusting is a bit tedious. If you don't have experience with v brakes read up on them before starting. Overall a good product.

Package contained all components necessary to repair or upgrade your brakes. Installation is straight forward and they work well.Only 1 complaint. The included cable housing comes wadded up in about a 3" diameter ring. Then the ends are woven in and out to hold the ring together. When you manage to unwind the cable/housing, there are multiple kinks in the housing. The kinks aren't sharp and the housing could still be used. But if the cable/housing were wound into a larger diameter ring, there would be no kinks at all. The irony is that the overall packaging of all components is a much larger bag and winding the housing into a larger ring wouldn't seem to change the cost or packaging.I ended up using everything in the package/kit except the housing. I went to the local bike shop to purchase straight smooth cable housing. My logic is that you want the brakes to work smoothly and freely. You are going through all the work to change the brakes. Why knowingly install kinked housing? The packing slip included says that if you cannot give a 5 out of 5 rating, you should contact Niagara Cycle to let them make it right. I did contact them but did not receive any reply. So I reduced my rating 1 star for the housing being kinked in the first place and a second star for not receiving any reply from the seller.

I picked up one of those cheap off-brand entry-level kids bikes at a garage sale. I've already put more into the bike than I paid. Retrospectively, I should've just got a Schwinn from Amazon. Anyway to make a long story short the stock calipers and break pads were complete garbage, some parts of which were plastic... and the hand brakes were completely made of plastic. The springs on the original calipers were weak so they would not release properly and it was like riding with the breaks on.I got this Origin8 brake set and it is like night and day. Although I did reuse the existing cables on the bike, this kit comes with everything you could possibly need to re-tool, with the exception of instructions and hex wrenches. If you are at all handy it is not that difficult to replace the parts, just let the existing parts on the bike be your guide. The calipers are solid and all-metal. The springs in the calipers are strong. The handles are solid metal too, even the black part. The pads stop the cheap, warped wheels on a dime. Everything about these is quality and at a relatively low price. I like that the kit had both the calipers and handles because I needed both. The cables were simply a bonus and now I have spares in case the originals break. My son can now finally brake properly again. This Origin8 set was well worth the investment.
