Very disappointed with this thing. It's NOT very well built for the money, looks cheap, made of plastic, and it CONSTANTLY hangs up the magnet EVERY time you pause or stop, and is just a general pain to use. If you stop, you have to coax it to start again by moving your flask all over the surface to get the magnets to grab again, just really aggravating. I just turn it off and start over, and even that is difficult. Will be definitely be returning this.

When I purchased this stir plate, I figured I would buy the best since it was also the highest priced- wrong! I have struggled with this plate since purchasing. The magnet spins easily without the flask, but does not with the flask. I spend 10-15mins each starter trying to get the stir bar and magnet to work together. Some times the bar just dances around in the flask and will not pair with the magnet. Other times, the stir bar pairs, but then the magnet will not turn. I have to slowly rotate the flask and gradually increase rotating the flask until the magnet "jump-starts" rotation. Some times the rotation will throw the bar. Other times it works for several minutes then throws the bar. Eventually it works. $100 overpriced.

Works great. Larger batches and higher abv means I need to pitch more yeast. Instead of buying many packs of yeast, I build starters to reduce costs. The yield with this plate is double a starter without it, and the starter builds twice as fast. Happy customer. I am building 4 and 5 liter starters no problem on this large footprint.

I purchased this stir plate in June of 2015. After using it for multiple starters, I have to say that I am not impressed. I'll start by going over what works.Well, it is a stir plate, and it does stir. I have produced good starters using it. The timer function works well and comes in handy for letting the yeast flocculate before pitching.As far as what doesn't work, there seems to be no observable difference in the stir speeds. I can never get a vortex even with small amounts of wort, on any setting between 1 and 5. I'll try to submit pictures. The magnetized stirrer in the unit also doesn't start spinning on its own. I usually have to use an external magnet to get it to start, or shake the entire unit. While the unit seems sturdy, I would not call it industrial grade. I work in a pharmaceutical lab with industrial stir plates, and this is nothing like them.It gets the job done, and I don't use it every day, so I tolerate it, but I definitely wouldn't buy one again.

I am surprised there are not more reviews! I have owned several very high priced over-hyped stirrers. This one is by far the best!!! I wish the plastic on top was class so i could clean it better. But the power of this machine is awesome! I am stirring 5000ml with ease. Other Stir plates barely spin that liquid even though they say it does.I will be buying a few more soon. Worth Every Penny

Very impressed. The unit is well built and looks as though it will last. Controls take a little getting used to and once you stop it takes a little finesse to get the stir bar going.
