POSITIVE:It is a pleasing work of art.Tactiley very satisfying.It opens envelopes (as long as they are not sealed perfectly).OBSERVATIONS:The polished surface gets minor scratches just from lying on my maple desk.It would work better if it was just a little sharper.Envelope gum clings determinedly to the shiny letter opener and is tedious to remove.NEGATIVE:Nothing.

Nicely weighted, comfortable to handle, with a surprising level of quality. Opens envelopes easily without the fear of cutting yourself. Certainly an upgrade from the typical letter opener. Highly recommend.

At 61, I have found the infinitely perfect letter opener. Almost makes me want to hire out as professional letter opener. Heavier than anticipated, that adds to its overwhelming amazingness. I've always purchased letter openers by sharpness of edge and point. Not going to do again. The rounded tip and edge are spot on perfect. The 'handle', while something I never would have designed into the product is again, spot on perfect. Does everything a letter opener should and I have never had such perfect cuts upon 'opening.' I will never recommend anything else and will be giving these as gifts. I will be looking into engraving, this is such a lovely and perfect piece of everyday function and need.UPDATE: A few weeks later, small scratches are starting to show up. They don't bother me a bit. I like the look of 'wear.' But I don't think I'll be giving them as gifts. It might bother some.

the photo provided makes it look like it is round, I stressed over purchasing it because it didn't look like it would be able to get into the space and begin the opening process. in fact the item in falter than the photo lets on (as I said it looks round like a tapered dowel), the tip fits easily into the folded area behind the flap-fold and easily slices through the paper very nicely. I do suggest purchasing one if you are in the market for a really nice letter opener and also that the seller up-date the photo to show the size/shape more accurately.A very nice tool I will have for decades.

This is exactly what I like and what I need. First of all, it does its job perfectly. It helps open all letter without making everything look messy. Especially if you have a bit OCD, this will help you. Second, the design is perfect. Simple and classy. Its all SILVER AND SHINY looking, no white at all like you might see from the picture. It makes your desk look better like you have a piece of art on it. And lastly, its kind of heavy, makes me absolutely like the feeling of holding it in my hand. Would buy again as a gift for friends!

About five years ago I had it. I'd received my thousandth paper-cut opening a bill. It just wasn't worth it. I had a letter opener, and have used it ever since. The only bad thing, it's ugly.I wanted something modern and elegant. I read reviews and settled on this. It's perfect.In the hand if sits nicely. It's very heavy and feels of that heft. The point is thick but easily slips into the envelope.I saw lots of complaints that it's not sharp. Letter openers should NOT be sharp. There's a trick to using them so they don't tear the envelope. As you push against the envelope, you withdraw the letter opener. It's sort of like you're pushing it apart from the inside. Doing it like that, this sliced right through the envelope, even better than my old one.The only downside is that it's so high-gloss it gets easily covered in fingerprints. That's quickly remedied.

It's nice to have a letter opener that I can leave on my desk without it just looking like clutter. It's like a functional piece of art.It has a good weight, it's sturdy, and fits well in my hand. I saw a review complaining that it didn't have a sharp edge on it. It doesn't, just like any letter opener. However, the rounded edge is fine enough to make clean, straight cuts when opening letters.

I spent way too much time looking for a good letter opener... but I eventually did find this one. It feels good in the hand and is excellent at what it does... opening letters. Do not be fooled into thinking that a letter opener need to be sharp... it does not. Sharp blades get caught on the paper and stall. This letter opener does it right with soft rounded edges.There is a tiny ball bearing on the back end for some reason. Perhaps to seal letters? Doesn't get in the way... so it never bothered me.After a few months you may feel the need to de-goop the glue off the blade. I recommend Goo Gone for this.

I wouldn't typically write a review about a letter opener, but I love this one! It is simple, elegant, eye-catching and well-balanced. It has a small dimple on the end which is the only blemish on this otherwise flawless opener. I would also like to comment that it has the perfect amount of "dullness" to the blade. I have purchased other openers which are actually too sharp. If the blade is too sharp it will get caught on the paper as it tears through the top of an envelope. A letter opener needs to be more like a butter knife, not "cutting" and not getting bound up on the envelope crease. They have set the edge on this to perfectly tear through an envelope, with a sharp enough tip to get started. The one downside I would say is that it really is sized for an adult male (or adult female with larger hands, no offense ladies :) My wife, who is 5' 2" and 110 lbs. doesn't care for it and finds it too large for her. I am 6' 0" 170 lbs and it fits my hand perfectly. I would highly recommend this as a gift for a sophisticated soul in your life, as they will most appreciate the elegance quotient.
