How Do You Use A Lever Hoist?
After securing the top hook and the load, you can by turning pawl rod lever to the three different positions, and then operating the lever with a pumping action.
- Raise the load: lifting position (UP)
- Lower the load: lowering position (DOWN)
- Adjust the chain length: neutral position (N gear)

I’ve owned much heavier hoists, but why not use a lighter hoist and higher pull for more leverage? This will work great.

This feels on the lighter duty side but it has a really nice ratcheting action and you can pull the chain trough smoothly before you put under load. Nice for lifting lighter stuff in my drive in shed. Can take a mower etc out of the bed of my truck on my little i beam trolly with this.

As I've gotten older I've found that I either can't lift things I used to or that lifting them involves risk I'm no longer willing to take. So I've started relying on mechanical items to do the lifting for me. I got this because I wanted a small, easily portable, easy-to-use, hoist for temporary lift jobs.My very first use of it was to hoist a hoist! :-) I needed to put a permanent, electric, hoist in place to lift items from the first floor of a garage to the second floor. This involved securing square tubing to rafters and then mounting the electric hoist to the tubing. All of this was 12+ feet off the ground and I needed a way to safely and confidently raise the 40+ lb hoist up to the tubing.This hoist was perfect. I threw some chain over a brace up by the roofline, attached thehoist to the chain and the electric hoist to the hoist with tie-down ratchet straps. Then it was just crank away until the electric hoist was at the right height.Two things I found incredibly useful: 1) the crank handle has three positions: raise; lower; and neutral. Neutral allows you to raise/lower the chain by pulling on it.;2) the increments when ratcheting are quite small. This allows you to be pretty precise in your lifting. I was able to reach the perfect height so that fitting the electric hoist onto the tubing was just sliding it on, no lifting involved.If you're looking for a nice, sturdy, portable and compact hoist this is a great choice!

So the hoist arrived in a box with no markings even saying what it was. In addition, when I opened the box I found the hoist wrapped in many turns of plastic-wrap. The hoist in plastic was the only thing in the box.There were no instructions. So here is this hoist. designed to lift 1100 lbs, 10 foot in the air, and I've never used a hoist like this before! While it is obviously a high quality piece of equipment, and I'm sure anyone who has used on for years would just hang it up and start pulling, well I'd sorta like to be able to be sure that once I get it in the air and let go of the chain, the the 1100 lb load isn't all of a sudden come crashing back down to Earth!I suspect some firms would have a specific training program for a hoist like that the any employee that was going to use the hoist would need to review and pass a verbal test, and they may even post the operating procedure close to the hoist so that it was readily available to employees.I did play around with it a bit, and at first I couldn't get it to release to come back down. Later I got it to release, but I didn't know what I did to get it to release!Anyway I gave this 5 stars, simple because this thing is built like a tank, and you will likely get one that has not been returned and comes with operating procedures.. In the meantime I will be working to get an instruction manual for it.
