Review of the MESTEK Non-Contact Voltage Tester PenAs a homeowner and occasional DIY enthusiast, I always prioritize safety when working with electrical systems. The MESTEK Non-Contact Voltage Tester Pen has quickly become an essential tool in my kit. With its dual range capabilities of AC 12V-1000V and 48V-1000V, this tester offers versatility that caters to various electrical tasks.Design and Build Quality The MESTEK tester is sleek and compact, making it easy to handle and store. The pen-like design fits comfortably in hand, and the lightweight build ensures it doesn’t become cumbersome during use. The LCD display is bright and clear, providing real-time voltage readings that are easy to interpret, even in dimly lit environments.Features and Functionality One of the standout features of this voltage tester is its non-contact capability, which allows me to safely detect live wires without needing to make direct contact. This feature greatly enhances safety and convenience, especially when working in tight spaces or with high-voltage circuits. The dual range capability is another major advantage. Being able to test a wide range of voltages means that this tool is suitable for both low-voltage applications and high-voltage electrical work. The live/null wire tester function is straightforward, clearly indicating whether a wire is live or neutral.Additional features, such as the flashlight, buzzer alarm, and wire breakpoint finder, add immense value. The flashlight is especially useful for working in dark areas, while the buzzer provides an audible alert that complements the visual indicators. The wire breakpoint finder is a clever addition that allows for efficient troubleshooting of electrical circuits.Performance In terms of performance, the MESTEK tester has been reliable and accurate. The detection is swift, with the LCD display updating quickly to reflect the voltage present. I have tested it on various electrical outlets and circuits, and it consistently provided accurate readings, giving me confidence in its reliability. Conclusion Overall, the MESTEK Non-Contact Voltage Tester Pen is a remarkable tool that strikes an excellent balance between functionality, safety, and ease of use. It is particularly well-suited for homeowners, electricians, and DIY enthusiasts alike. With its range of features and robust performance, it stands out as a valuable addition to any tool collection. Whether you're troubleshooting a minor electrical issue or conducting a more significant project, this voltage tester is an investment worth making. Highly recommended!

My previous no contact voltage testers worked by making a sound and lighting up when the sensor was near detected voltage. Unfortunately, until they were near voltage you really couldn’t tell if they were working at all and sometimes they would beep and light up for no reason whatsoever. It was always hard to have any real confidence in the stupid things. This tester is exactly what I was looking for to replace the old tester. This tester has the LED display so you know without a doubt that it is on and there is a battery meter so you should be able to ensure that it has adequate battery power. The meter beeps and graphically shows with bars on the display when voltage is nearby. I theory you can determine whether it is low voltage or strong voltage, though I don’t think I would use this style of tester to make that determination. I just like knowing that I can trust the tool when it beeps and says there is voltage, or even more importantly that I can trust when it is silent and suggests that there is no voltage. The flashlight will be handy when the lights go out because I turned the power off to work on whatever I’m working on, though I would almost certainly find a more powerful flashlight to see what I’m doing. I’m sure there will be times when the flashlight will be very helpful. I needed a voltage tester before this arrived so I priced them at the hardware store. I could find a tester as good as this for anywhere near this price.

I am not a professional electrician. I am a typical DIY homeowner looking to save a few dollars on simple repairs and installations. I found the MESTEK Non-Contact Voltage Tester to be the perfect tool for my needs. It is so easy to use, and it helps ensure my safety as I install a light or replace a worn outlet. I have even used it on my low voltage landscape lighting to find chipmunk chews in the wires. For my purposes I don't really need to know the amount of voltage coursing through a wire, just whether or not it is present. I always kill the power to where I am working at the breaker box, but this sweet device lets me know I got the right switch. It has a nice audible sound when electricity is detected as well as a visual indicator. It also has a handy flashlight built into the working end. I also like the fact that batteries (two AAA) are included. It seems to be pretty well made. About the only negative thing I found in using this detector is that when you power it on it comes on to low sensitivity. The instructions are simple and very easy to understand. For most of my work around the house I would prefer it boots on to high sensitivity first and then I can choose to go to the lower sensitivity level but so far that is the only drawback I have found. Other than that little thing, this is a really nice DIY helper.
