About this item

  • EASY AUXILIARY HIHAT SETUP: mounts stationary hihats anywhere on your kit with minimal, quick setup; solid chrome plated steel holds everything in place
  • WHY IT MATTERS: you can play grooves open handed instead of cross hand; or place an auxiliary hihat/stack next to your main hats to open up your sound—the options are endless
  • ONE BIG THING: the spring-loaded infinite control dial gives you unlimited tension settings on your cymbals; set to a completely open hihat sound, a slightly loose sizzle effect, or tightly closed crisp "chick"
  • OF NOTE: works with most cymbal sizes; the Meinl X-Hat Arm will accommodate if you have a 6" mini hihat pair or a big 18" stack
  • ZOOM IN: two 360-degree angle adjustment points on the arm allow you to find the perfect placement on your kit and weave through crowded spaces; plus, the cymbal tilter lets you fine-tune your final angle
  • WHAT'S IN THE BOX: knurled boom arm, clamp, mini hihat rod, padded felt hihat seat with bottom cymbal angle adjustment, standard hihat clutch, felts for your top cymbal (CYMBALS NOT INCLUDED)
  • BY THE NUMBERS: total arm length including tilter is 15.5"; from hihat seat to end of rod is 5.25"
  • THE TAKEAWAY: this is a great addition to your set for mounting stationary auxiliary hihats and stacks of almost any size; it's easy to set up with endless adjustment options and is highly durable

The Meinl X-Hat Auxiliary Hihat Arm lets you mount a pair of secondary hihats or a stack, plus you control the sound with its adjustable spring-loaded baseplate that creates tight or loose tension on your cymbals. Simply turn the large winged dial to get a loose, sloshy sound or a tight hihat effect. This arm comes with a standard hihat clutch with durable cymbal felts and a felt padded baseplate that lets you adjust the angle of the bottom cymbal just like a traditional hihat stand does. Made from heavy-duty chrome plated steel, it has three angle adjustment points so you can mount virtually anywhere on your kit and find the best placement for your cymbals—it works especially well in tight spaces. You can also mount any cymbal size. Whether you have a 6" mini hihat pair or a mammoth 18" stack, the Meinl X-Hat Arm is designed to accommodate small or large pairs of cymbals. Attach to any common cymbal stand with its universal mount and add new sounds to your kit while cutting down on your stage footprint.

I use it for a MAIN high-hat so it gets used pretty much every beat of every song. It's held up great. It's a little *clunky* to adjust because of the weight of my heavy hats, but still works pretty well. Easy to adjust if you have good access to everything. Pretty heavy when on a cymbal stand, so use a good quality heavy duty stand and point one of the legs towards the x-hat. I love it.Professional bassist, hobby drummer so haven't gigged with it.

Had it a day or so after I ordered it, which was awesome! Got it right before leaving for rehearsal, so I got to try it out right away. Got it out of the box and set up within 5 minutes. Instantly fell in love with it! Was worried about the plastic wing nuts at first, but they seem to be pretty sturdy. I use a good bit of Meinl products and they've yet to let me down. You can't go wrong with them. Good Quality/Sturdiness/Performance and they're prices are hard to pass up.

After playing 50+ years I wanted to switch to a hat-center setup to go from cross hand to open hand. I am using a mid '70s Rogers Memriloc set that mounts the toms on a post that comes up through the center of the kick drum, so mounting a live cable operated remote hat is a non starter. The x-hat is very adjustable so I was able to mount it to the post, positioning the hat slightly above and between the toms and it works great. I am using 14" Paiste hat cymbals on it and It is set up with just the right amount of slush playing the edge and still get the closed hat ping articulation. I kept my original hat in case I really need the pedal-actuated hat sounds but otherwise use it as another cymbal.A note to beginning drummers: you really owe it to yourself to go with open hand playing from the start, if you can. Cross hand has been a longstanding tradition in the way that a trap kit is played but it traps (pun intended) your snare hand under your other hand and generally gets in the way. Playing open hand gives you many more movement possibilities and that is why you see top drummers (Danny Carey, et al) have moved to center hat.

53 years multi-faceted percussionist:I was looking for a simple auxiliary hat so I could have a second sets of hats on my right side making it more comfortable and useful when playing fusion. The adjustable nature and ability to set the hats loose to extra tight is a great feature. Meinl took great care with the clutch assembly and padding for the cymbals to prevent damage to the inner bore. I've seen reviews where it discussed no protection for the cymbals which I can't find to be an issue with my cymbals. (I have been told that some people have cymbals with a smaller bore as mine are apparently slightly oversized) Meinl made the bottom pad to protect the bell of the bottom cymbal as well as adding a small piece of the felt padding that fits inside the bore of the cymbal preventing any contact with any metal that could damage cymbals. The top clutch is a standard clutch with 2 nuts and felt pads for top and bottom of the upper cymbal. The extension rod and clamp are of hight quality as well. The knobs are all large nylon so you can get a good grip to ensure everything is tight and won't move while playing easy or extremely hard. I'm very pleased with the entire assembly and recommend this to anyone just needing aux hats and not a full remote hat system. I've included pictures of the clutch assembly showing the felts and how the protect cymbals and the over sized handles.
