Playing for 37 years. DW stock and Danmar felt beaters have been good enough but lacking in punch, Danmar wood is too harsh and click-y for the music I play now. None were giving me the sound I heard in my head or the balance and feel I wanted. I kept coming back to consider the leather-on-wood even though $40 seemed a little steep, finally gave in. Played with it at practice for a few hours and got a great sound mic'd up; this is 100% the sound and feel I've been seeking. Excellent tone, great punch, perfect balance, well rounded thump with a nice smack for punctuation and clarity — I'm an instant fan. Can't wait to gig with it.
