This review took longer than expected as I had to order a 3/4” Weldon shank to a 1/2” drill chuck adapter. The annular cutters are good value for the money, and great for a hobbyist who will use them occasionally.I like that set included the centering pin as that makes these a lot easier to use on the drill press. These work well for mild steel and aluminum. I don’t think they will last very long on hardened steel or stainless steel. While the bits feel sharp, when I examined them under my microscope, they are not sharpened very well. You can see in the photos a lot of grinding burrs and a few burnt edge spots where the metal was overheated. The diameters when measured are accurate for cutting a hole so they will do the job. I just don’t feel they are up to professional/daily use as they are not likely to stay sharpened. But for my hobby use they work fine, and should last a long time when used with plenty of cutting fluid and watching your cutting speeds.

This annular cutter set comes in a plastic latch box that is padded and held in place with foam. It comes with a manual, 6 cutters, and a pilot pin. These cutters are very sharp and should cut nicely. I would suggest using them with some kind of cutting oil or lubricant to help these cutters cut as well as last longer. Apply even pressure as well as use the pilot pin to keep you as straight as you possibly can.Overall, this is a great set if you are looking for these specific sizes of annular cutters.

I used to avoid any high speed steel tooling from China because it was always absolute trash even wood end mills would be hollow, dull and chip/break at first sign of use. Recently though I have run across some very nice step drills and a few decent chamfer end mills in high speed steel that I thought these may be worth a try. Right out of package I noticed a little rust even though they were covered in oil/watery cosmoline. This alone wouldn't be a deal breaker but the finish of the flutes(teeth) looks somewhere between the cheapest and average quality I would say.

Just as a cautionary note these cutters won't readily chuck up in a 1/2" chuck you'll need an adaptor. I thought maybe I could make them work with some other equipment I had but i wasn't able to do that. The adapter is like $40 and probably is worth it. I'm just cheap I suppose. So I made my own out of some 3/4" nuts bored out to 3/4" welded them together and took a 1/2" x 3" bolt chucked it up in the drill press and ground the hex head down to exactly 3/4" then welded it on the nuts put in some set screws to hold the cutter and done. It does the job. My rig is a bit rough and I'm sure my drill press is under powered but do these bits cut awesome! I've never tried annul cutters before so I don't have much to compare them to other than the 30 years of on the fly engineering and fixes. You won't regret this purchase these are the best way to drill bigger holes in metal I've ever seen or tried. I had 6 holes through 1/4" mild steel in about 2 minutes I couldn't be happier with there performance and I'm sure when I wear these out I'll buy them again.
