The panel also includes four RJ-11 jacks for incoming lines to accept satin telephone cords from LEC or CATV triple play modems. It provides a security jack for connecting an auto dial security system to incoming phone line #1. The TIDP is designed for use in any of Leviton's existing Structured Media Centers. Link with other distribution boards, modules or panels to expand the system. Telephone input distribution panel, Black housing.

Wire-line telephones seem passe to many people today, but they still have their place. You cannot wire a good local area network (LAN) in a home without including phone communications (eg, for a fax or a voice landline), and a phone hub (what Leviton calls a telephone input distribution panel) is necessary. I looked a long time before finding this one, so there isn't a lot of competition. This one works well. It can handle up to four inputs and has twelve output jacks. My only cavil is that the output jacks are designed for RJ-45 plugs; ordinary RJ-11s can be inserted and will work, but it's difficult because of their slightly different shape. My workaround was just to use RJ-45s, being careful to slot the four wires needed for telephone carriage into the four centermost slots of the RJ-45 (watching the colors carefully, of course).

The Leviton Telephone Input Distribution Panel (TIDP) is a convienitnet way to connect and manage up to 12 telephone in a house or tiny office. It is a completely passive device, no power required. In my case I needed to replace a jury rigged configuration that I suspected was adding some noise to the phone circuit. Before making the changes I wanted to understand how the Leviton TIDP worked, so I sought for schematics and technical data online. Results sparse. Upon receipt, thanks to fast Amazon shipping, I decided to do some testing to understand exactly how the TIDP worked...and with my little telephone polarity tester, it kept show reverse polarity whereas my old system kept showing correct polarity.I called the Leviton tech support phone number but they provided very little information...in fact the tech support person really didn't know much about the TIDP device itself. He basically insisted that I use the punch down block to connect to the incoming telephone line and not the RJ11 jacks 1 to 4. But he also affirmed that all the RJ11 and punch down block were all connected. Bottom line little technical help. The punch down block is arranged as 4 pairs and those pairs are distributed to the 12 RJ45 connections via T568A wiring. Each of the four RJ11 inputs (coming from "triple play" modems) has the tip and ring (leads 2 and 3 of the RJ11) connected to the appropriate pairs of the punch down block resulting in the T568A configuration. From here the 4 pairs are distributed via the security and test connection to the 12 RJ45 connections (From here they can be patched to the building infrastructure). What I discovered was it appears that all telephone RJ11 line cords are cross connected...pin 2 to pin 3 and pin 3 to pin 2 (pin 1 to pin 4 and vice versa). It appears that in going from a "triple play" (which I do not have...only a FIOS demarc) via RJ11, there can be no cross connect...it has to be pin 2 to pin 2 and pin 3 to pin 3.I made up a special cable with two RJ11s but straight connect, and tested that first...and got proper green lights on my tester. From here it was clear sailing and the new TIDP is now the telephone distribution mechanism for my house -- and it looks much neater than the configuration I originally designed.Leviton - you need to improve your documentation; you need to improve your technical support.Would I buy the Leviton TIDP again...yes. But clearly some technical knowledge is required and a few tools. It mounted nicely on my ply wood wall without the need for any Leviton boxes and is neater than my original design. They even provide RJ45 patch cords to connect the TIDP to a patch panel that could terminate infrastructure wiring.

Works great to loop to alarm system, and run phones through out house business. easy to install, wires can run top or bottom (no side option).Pro:Cleanlooks niceworks as advertisedSecurity alarm loop (alarm block hold line open) works greatCon:Take some time to read through the instructions if you are going to loop an alarm jack up and back, if you are not using the alarm system line block, its punch and go, if you are just take some time to pin it out and you will be good.

Like all Leviton gear this is pricy but it is top quality and their technical support is world class. If you have a ton of CAT 5 or 6 wires coming in from all over the house you may want to also purchase a Leviton Twist & Mount Patch Panel, 24 Port, Cat5e & Cat6. By punching down all wiring from the jacks to Leviton Twist & Mount Patch Panel first allows quick jack configuration from data or voice or vise versa. This product comes with short silver RJ45 cables to connect from the Twist & Mount Patch Panel. Our home has 12 phone jacks that have two pairs of cat 5e at each jack. I wired in with a home phone line and a DSC alarm panel. The wiring from the DSC to allow the security system seize the line was one of the reasons why I selected this unit. I also like the fact that we can easily add up to 4 lines using this panel in the future. I hope this review is helpful.

I recently reviewed Leviton's cat6/5e 24-port patch panel that matches this phone panel - all the good things I had to say about the data panel apply here. This is all plastic and cheap silicon boards, but it's way better than the real cheapy Far East stuff. This thing seems built to last - definitely not worried about breaking it during installation. As for performance, it does the job an old-fashion (POTS-line) product needs to do. It has an easy punch down location for your main copper line, which feeds the on-board dual-purpose RJ11/45 jacks - allowing flexibility when matching your cabling/terminators - I opted for RJ45 everywhere as a future-proofing measure in my infrastructure. This thing handles it, no problem.Definitely recommend the Leviton line for wiring up your home/small office!
