I am swapping out solar landscape light to low voltage LED lights. I am in the process of testing several different sets, and clearly from a quality and performance standpoint, this Varmtalys Landscape Well Light is a clear winner. The unit has a large solid metal waterproof construction with a high quality plastic shell. The included wire length and gauge makes this a premium design. This light is more expensive than others but if you value quality and longevity over simple functionality, this is clearly a great choice.

Product: Landscape Well Light HoodedBrand : VarmtalysASIN : B0CQK2F765๐กImpressions:I own several Varmtalys well lights, each sharing a similar sturdy construction but differing in hood type and brightness. This particular lamp emits 420 lumens, placing it in the middle range compared to their other models: 350 lumens for the anti-glare louvered lamp and 580 lumens for the open-faced area light. These lights are all well-built with heavy aluminum construction and an appealing rubbed oil bronze finish. The taller hood of this lamp suited perfectly for illuminating shrubbery in front of my house without causing glare back towards the home. Each of these well lights serves different purposes, offering various light spreads to meet differing needs. It's important to note that these lamps cannot have their bulbs replaced, but they should provide years of service with an average lifespan of 50,000 hours.โญโญโญโญ Rating: Well-built with accurate color temperatureThanks for reading. ๐

These fixtures have a fixed, non-standard (MR16, etc.) bulb that does not appear replaceable and is not standard if it is even replaceable. The color of the lighting may be the correct kelvin rating but has a more yellow appearance as opposed to the more bronze appearance of standard incandescent and other LEDs I have designed to mimic incandescent. The fixture also simply press fits into the housing and relies on o-rings to seal out water as opposed to a rubber gasket with screws as other well lights I have.

I've been super impressed with the several Varmtalys lights - spotlights, path lights, and well lights - I've recently added to my 12V low voltage light system. They're all built well and they all work great. This particular well light has an anti-glare shroud so it can be used in a higher-visibility area and/or where people may be forced to look directly at the light either from a distance or as they're passing by. I have dozens of low voltage lights, including several well lights, and this is the first well light I've used with an anti-glare shroud. I had always been concerned the vertical shroud would be a tripping hazard, so I've been careful to place this one where no one walks, even during routine gardening and yard maintenance. The photo I included shows the light being tested before being installed in the gound. The instructions don't suggest this, but the hole for this light should be dug deep enough for you to put a couple of inches of gravel in the bottom of the hole for proper drainage of water away from the light.

A key feature to quickly judge the quality of a landscape lighting fixture is the length of the wire emerging from it for connection to your main power supply cable. Upon first receiving this landscape light I thought that it did not come with the stated 3 foot long wiring pigtail. There wasn't any wire emerging from the light fixture when I removed it from its cushioned box. There was no mention of it in the installation directions included in the package. And I was about to complain that it wasn't as described online ... until I decided to open up the unit to see how I might be able to attach my wiring to it inside of its outer housing in a waterproof manner. That is when I discovered that the wiring emerged from the inner unit through a waterproof grommet and that it could then be drawn out through one of the 3 knock-outs on either side and the bottom of that outer shell. I think I will still apply some water seal to the two side knock-outs since they could easily allow water to enter the outer shell at a level equal to or above the inner wiring emerge point to provide me with a bit of additional waterproofing.Otherwise this is a quality built landscape lighting fixture. It has a dark bronze finish on the metal shroud that will be exposed to view above ground. There are dual waterproofing "O" rings sealing the upper metal section to the sides of the lower plastic section. At the bottom of the metal fixture are cooling fins to keep the unit from overheating (although these will be enclosed inside the rather cramped buried lower plastic shell). The pigtail wire is of sufficient length to allow easy attachment and burial of the actual connections to the main power supply cable. The ends of the wires have been tinned. And the 6 watt LED light is sufficiently bright enough for use in most residential up-lighting situations. For this level of quality the under twenty-five dollar price is a bargain.
