I've had this Innostage since June 2021 and I think it's great for the price and what it does. The bottom of the pit is a little warped and rusted, but that was my fault for leaving it out in rain or snow a few (like 3 or 4 times). The performance is unaffected. It takes some time to understand how it works and how to get an effective, albeit short, fire going. Overall, it is smokeless for the most part and puts off a good amount of heat. You get about 30 minutes for a fire and 20 of it is roaring - depending on how many pellets you add.Rule #1: NEVER add more pellets to a roaring fire or smoldering ash. You will release a smoke monster.Rule #2: NEVER EVER add more pellets to an existing fire or smoldering ash. You will upset your guests and significant other.Pour in the pellets to about more than half way, but under the little inside holes. Next, spray some lighter fluid, light and enjoy. That's really it. And follow the 2 rules above. When all you have is smoldering ash left, you can use some metal tool (like a hoe) and push and scrape the ash around the bottom to force it into the catch basin thing below. After that, you can add more pellets and repeat the process. Just be careful redoing the lighter fluid since the ash below can reignite from below.

And I was thinking I needed the large size! This unit is PLENTY big enough for our deck; at 40° F I think you could fit 4-6 small-to-medium size deck chairs around it and still be close enough for warmth. Typical of gasifier stoves, it takes a while (5 minutes?) after lighting before it is initially smokeless (not really smokeLESS, but with smoke significantly reduced). We use denatured alcohol as an accelerant to light it initially, and use wood pellet fuel. I suppose you could use twigs and small sticks, but forget it being (nearly) smokeless at that point; the fuel would be too inconsistent. First burn lasts maybe 20+ minutes before fuel has to be added, then plan on adding every 5-10 minutes. Here's the tricky part: if you want the fire to continue (nearly) smokelessly, you must add just the right amount of pellets at just the right time; too many and/or too late and the fire will smolder a bit, smoking you out, until the gasifier (afterburner?) kicks back in. Also, the more the ash and partially burnt pellets accumulate, the more difficult the timing and amount to add becomes, until finally (in my limited experience) it will smolder like any campfire, regardless. It takes maybe an hour or two to get to that point, maybe more; I can be heavy-handed adding fuel, so my time may be foreshortened. If you don't mind smelling like Smoky Stover, then what the hey; otherwise you'll have to enjoy fires like my wife ( "is it lit? Okay, I'm only here for a minute or two..." ). The unit kicks out the heat, and there can be a bit of cinder falling out near it, so we protect our composite deck with a 4' diameter fire mat/pad with the unit set in the center on top of a 2" thick paver stone... no heat or cinders reach the deck. I wouldn't plan on firing this thing in any significant breeze though, maybe 10 mph tops, as you can expect some cinders to fall, unless you have other means of dousing and/or sheltering the fire. So, for a fire-fiddler like me, it's a great little unit; fiddle away. It is not hands off, nor smoke free, and is, well, fiddley. Nice size, stores small enough in its carry bag, and looks like it could handle many years of my abuse. Using heat grade wood pellets, this thing is pretty cheap to operate. Using food grade pellets, it could double as a grill...

I purchased the stainless steel version. The 4 stars for "lightweight" is because this is not thin and flimsy. Solid construction and design gives it a bit of weight.I was concerned about it being too small but it has been a hit with everyone that has seen it. I have a small camper so a regular box store firepit was not a viable option. The way this pit nests inside itself and its good quality carry bag made this one of my camping favorites. Some reviewer complained about he quality of the carry bag. Yes I would have preferred a cordura nylon bag, but the included vinyl bag is adequate and will last with just a bit of care. This pit makes a really nice fire with tall flames using pellets. Easy to start and clean after. Puts off a lot of heat with almost no smoke. It does not put out the amount of flame from the small holes near the top like the expensive smokeless pits advertise. You get some and maybe if you used more pellets for ahotter fire you would get more. I like it way better than a regular pit that smokes up your eyes and clothes causing to to play ring around the pit avoiding the smoke. Haven't used wood in it. Pellets leave little ash/soot and can be used in campgrounds that prohibit outside firewood. My advise; just buy it.

This fire pit is brilliant, I got this for £35.00 when others that are very similar are going for £70.00. The quality is brilliant and after several fire's it still holds up and looks like new. Just make sure you empty it after use and pack it away. The secondary burn looks amazing once it gets going. It's not truly smoke free, although you can't see it you still smell smokey at the end of the night.
