The gate on this thing is HUGE! I'm sure the manufacture has their reasons, but I feel it's overkill. The triple gate mechanism is a bit awkward to use with one hand, but practice helps a lot. Perhaps the oversized gate is supposed to make that easier? A standard auto locking gate is much easier to use, but if you're looking for redundant security, this is your carabiner.

I'm putting together a block and tackle for rigging work to use on trail crews. Since we'll be hiking this gear in to worksites I've been looking for an oval carabiner that would provide minimum weight. This is the best I've found for the required oval carabiner that has the strength necessary to ensure reliability. I don't need the triact lock, which requires sliding the lock barrel up before the lock can be rotated and the gate opened. Quality and finish appear excellent. Action is smooth. This should do well for my purpose and not have any difficulty dealing with the rigors we'll put it through.

This I-Beamer Oval Lock Carabiner from ProClimb is a seriously heavy-duty carabiner. It's relatively light weight and the triple locking action gate provides safety and inspires confidence. That said, the size and positioning of the gate hardware is my least favorite part of this carabiner. Because the lime green gate hardware is so big, and because it has an angled opening, it's a little hard to open with one hand. It can be done, and if you have bigger hands, this might not be an issue for you at all... but when I compare this ProClimb I-Beamer to a Petzl OK Triact Carabiner that I've been using for years, it's noticeable how much smaller the orange gate hardware on the Petzl is (see attached picture). And the Petzl gate opens directly towards the spine, not on an angle. Between the size and angle, the Petzl is easier to open with one hand. That said, the Petzl doesn't have quite as high a major axis strength rating as the ProClimb, but it's also lighter weight (and a cheaper price), so depending on your needs, either of these could be a very good choice.
