  • Hellwig sway bars feature larger than stock diameters and precision engineered components to optimize handling and reduce body roll.

Sway bars, or more accurately anti-roll bars, are designed to resist a vehicle’s tendency to pitch from side to side during cornering, improving cornering ability and making for a more comfortable controlled ride. Sway bars are among the most cost effective and dramatic improvements that you can make to your vehicle regardless of whether it’s a truck, muscle car, tow rig, or RV. Sway bars are also typically easy to install, making them a great first upgrade for anyone who wants a little more control out of their ride.

The sway bar fits on my 1998 Ford E350 cutaway. Hard for me to install. It does reduce the swaying of the RV. My RV didn’t originally come with a rear sway bar. I had to cut off the end of the j-bolt as when installed it hung lower than the differential. Also had to adjust the brake lines as the U bolts interfered with the brake lines fitted on the rear differential housing.

Fist order did not get delivered and was returned by carrier. Second order was delivered on time and in good order. Installation went smoothly, instructions were very helpful. Now my 1986 Econoline 25 foot jayco motor home is a pleasure to drive, even when an eighteen wheeler passes.

1999 Ford E-350, 26' MotorHome. Without factory rear sway bar.Hellwig box/packaging is insufficient to contain/restrain the heavey steel bar. One end of the box had broken open in transit. The large box staples that hold it together, were missing from that end. Shippers had made attempt to tape it closed, but with too little tape. The inclosed small "parts box" was securely glued to the inside wall. But it too had begun to open, as it had been put upon by the loose/moving steel bar. No contents were lost. Hellwig should design the packaging/box to allow it to be transported on its edges. And Steps/improvements made to keep the bar in its place. It may help if the foam bags used to locate the steel bar, were glued to the inside wall of the box, such as the "parts box" had been.Hope to update review after installation is completed.UPDATE 6/28/2020 : INSTALATION EXPERIANCE ; I purchased THIS HELLWIG sway bar, and not the Roadmaster brand, because it promised " NO DRILLING INSTALATION "."Use the existing hole that is in the frame " , it promised. This was not the case. While the bar is great. The axle mounting brackets are great. The bar was clamped to the axle, up against the back of the two shock mounts. This location was OK. And truthfully the best option. But when it came to connecting the vertical " links " to the ends of the bar,( using the existing frame holes ), this put the links at an angle. As the holes were at least 3" away from the vertical. Connected there, the links are not perpendicular to the bar ends, or to the frame. This would not let the sway bar function properly. I found two existing 1/4" holes in the frame rails, that seemed to be equally located on each side. And properly, vertically positioned over the ends of the bar. I could access these with my drill motor. Using 10qty drill bits, each larger than the previous, I was able to enlarge these two holes, until I could mount the link hardware. ( take care to protect the hoses/plumbing located on the one rail ). All looks great now. My 26' 1999 E350 Ford Motorhome takes corners and turns much better, now. I did need to shorten the length of the "hook" bolts, as they extended into the leaf springs. I also put locknuts/jamb nuts on the bolts that connect the link bracket to the frame rails. They use a steel plate with a threaded bolt hole. Many of the nuts were "locknuts" , which is a good thing. But do slow down the assembly, then the necessary disassembly.Still an expensive option, that Ford should make standard.

It changed my RV drinking experience. Winds and trucks would blow me all over the road, now it drives like a car, a little sway when pushed by trucks but it stops immediately. I put one on the back first, saw a big difference so I put one on the front and made it even better. The rear one was difficult to put on by myself but I managed. If you had another set of hands to hold it up it would be a piece of cake!

mechanic who installed this loved the beefy size. His test drive showed a huge improvement in the ride. This was compared to the old track bar I had on the vehicle. He did not like the track bar on my one ton RV frame with the leaf springs as he believed it would eventually damage the frame. He said the Track Bar would have been fine on a vehicle with coil springs, but the sway bar was much better on my setup. I have not had a chance to really take it out and see other than the drive home which worked great. Loved the quality and shipped quickly.

I'm not sure this helps the rear-end sway in my E-350 all that much. The installation instructions were mediocre. Put the money into a good set of shocks: your money will be better spent.

We are trying to get our motorhome to stop wandering on the road. We had this sway bar installed because we had NO sway bar on our 29' rig! Bought this on Amazon because we have free shipping and the price was right. It has helped to stop the wandering feeling. The only reason I gave four stars is because the packaging was broken completely by the time it arrived at our house. Both ends were opened and the box was in sad shape. It could have been the delivery service.
