I don't think there is a substitute for this so if you need it, you have only this choice.I have replaced this (and the stop valves) in my shower twice (seem to last ~7 years with Los Angeles' hard water).Comes with a tiny tube of plumbers' grease which is nice.

Worked well in fixing the dripping leak on a 30+ year old Grohe facet in the house.

Replaces pressure balanced valve when it becomes stuck or does not flow water temperature reliably. the holt and cold valves are usually okay (much less cost).Once you have the knob and handle assembly removed, the valve is relatively easy to replace, requiring a very large deep socket to remove. See the manual which came with the valve for an exploded diagram for disassembly. If your water exhibits significant hardness, scale build up internally around the threads may cause the valve to be stuck. I was only able to loosen the threads by using a 18" breaker bar to gently force it to loosen. Only a few threads engage the valve. Use a 6-point socket as the shoulder the socket rests on has a short length making soft brass easy to strip (I almost did using a 12-point socket). I was told by Grohe USA to use a 17mm socket which is far too small. The best fit I found was SAE using a 15/16" deep socket (if I recall correctly) and not metric, to get the tighest fit of socket to valve body. Also Grohe mentioned that applying clear vinegar in advance, letting it soak in, would help, though where to apply it seems would be a challenge, unless you remove the escutcheon plate.the silicone grease packet is hardly enough to cost the 3 o-rings. Any extra smear around the valve body to prevent scale build up of freezing the valve to its housing. The downside is this valve is very pricey.

Old shower tap was no longer working, now it is easily adjustable and works great, asy to increase or decrease temp with out fear of burning yourself

This valve was a perfect replacement for a valve datecoded to 1994. Happy to know that the compatibility remained the same over the years. Old valve had to be replaced dure to buildup of scale. 4 stars for lack of instructions and lack of lube for the rings. After installing the new valve, the shower would just be tolerable heat wise on the lowest setting (too hot). After troubleshooting, It turns out that the valve comes from the factory all the way to the hottest setting. You have to adjust the temperature and should calibrate it to 100f before installing the knob back on. Else, you may not be in the range of the valve cycle that gives the proper mix. There’s a hard stop at the hot end, there is no stop at the cold end. Use an instant read meat thermometer to dial the temp in.

I have two bathrooms in my house. Both have all Grohe fixtures. They were installed when we added a second floor to our house about 40 years ago. Never had any issues in all those years but finally, parts started to fail. Our second floor shower stopped working properly and I had to get a new cartridge and some other parts for that shower. It was a brutal repair for me, but I called upon Grohe who stepped up and walked me through the parts I needed and the install. This past week our main floor bath which has a Grohe shower also failed. It was extremely difficult to turn the knob to adjust the temperature and after hours of trying to find a solution, looking at my original Grohe product sheet (I keep all of these forever on every appliance and other items) I took this faucet apart. Big mistake...took hours trying to figure out the issue and realized it had to be the "Integrated Grohmix Thermostat Cartridge".Again with the aid of Grohe who I sent photos of my issue and progress, I decided to just buy the new cartridge. This was the best price I could find anywhere for a new one. There are used ones out there, but why take a chance on someones used cartridge.Long story ends with the successful install of the new cartridge, had to recalibrate the temperature settings on the handle and now all is well. We were without water for two days waiting for this to come in and we had turned the house main water supply off, because the water wouldn't stop coming out in the shower/tub.Love Grohe, without their continued support, I am not sure what I would have done. I know this could have cost hundreds if I called in a plumber, who I am sure would have done the same thing I did, but it would have been at least two visits to my home.
