Ok. Here's what I can tell you about these.I stuffed a synthetic large sleeping bag (20 degree) into a large size compression sack (22L), fully compressed it for a move, and threw it into a tub in my storage area. Forgot about it. Took it out recently after 10 YEARS. The stuff sack is fine. No Rips, no thread pops, good as new. Washed and fluffed the sleeping bag. It made out OK too, but a little flat. Here's how it works for me for a Surplus Military Sleep System:SMALL 11L: Stuffs a large goretex bivy cover just fine. Would also work well for some clothing like fleeces, puffy coat and a t shirt or two.MEDIUM 16 L: Stuffs the Patrol Bag (it's like a synthetic 40 degree bag) just fine. Would work for most sleeping bags that aren't winter bags.LARGE 22L: Stuffs the intermediate bag (it's like a synthetic 20 degree bag). Would work well for bigger or thicker sleeping bags.Down bags and ultralight sleeping bags will of course pack smaller. These things aren't light weight or thin. They are thick and durable. Work really well. Not overly heavy either. Get them unless you are trying to go super ultralight. They are THE stuff sack. I've used them for years and they hold up.

I bought the Granite Gear Round Rock Solid Compression Sack (medium) in January for my upcoming backpacking trip through Europe. I used it to carry my Kelty Lightyear XP (short) sleeping bag throughout the 40 day journey, and couldn't be more pleased with performance of the sack.It feels (subjectively) about half the size of my original Kelty compression sack, and while it was a tight squeeze, the Granite Gear compressed my sleeping bag to an impressively small size. It was so small, in fact, that it could fit horizontally inside my 65 liter backpack, as opposed to strapping it to the outside -- which I had assumed would be my only option. As for build quality, the Granite Gear bag is strong and resilient. Keep in mind that my only point of comparison is a Kelty compression sack, but the Granite Gear blows it out of the water. The seams of the sack are very sturdy and hardly showed signs of stress even under the hardest compressions during my trip.Based on my experience, I would recommend Granite Gear to anyone as a strong, good quality, and relatively cheap way to carry your gear.

I got an XL for my slippery, fluffy, vastly-annoying-to-pack mummy style synthetic fill sleeping bag. Supposedly I could have gotten the L size for it, but I'm not looking for the tiniest possible end result, I'm looking to avoid headaches packing. It was reasonably easy to stuff the sleeping bag inside the XL sack (but I don't think I would have been happy with the L). Then you just put the end cap over the open end and pull on the four straps to shrink it down. Result: a small, tidy bundle with a handy carry strap on one end. Awesome!(Not intended as an experiment, but my first try at tightening up the straps was far more violent than they needed. So I'm happy to also be able to report that all the stitching held up fine.)

I bought the recently for a few camping/hiking trips, which comes in a giant bag rather than a compression sack like most newer sleeping bags. It's a larger, heavy sleeping bag but I could tell it would compress well if I had a good compression sack for it.I bought the XXL compression sack as I wasn't sure if the sleeping bag would fit in anything smaller. The compression sack comes in a small, reusable pouch (with loops on each end, nice for hanging) and the sack is very well constructed. I only bought this one because I wanted to check its quality before buying more. I'll absolutely be purchasing multiple other sizes for various other purposes.I stuffed my large sleeping bag in the compression sack and was very surprised to see just how far I was able to compress it with the compression sack. The straps, stitching and material of the sack seem very durable and quality built, though we'll have to see how it's doing in 6 months of use. One concern I had was the plastic pieces used to tighten and hold the straps. I was very happy to see that they are quality and won't break under the stress. They also hold the straps extremely well. Also, the compression sack has a strap on one end that is great for a cary handle! I've added several photos of the sack with the sleeping bag compressed.

I received two sleeping bags as a gift a while back which are very nice, but didn't come with a bag of its own (instead, came with a tie-up system which never works). They are also HUGE, and because of the lousy tie-up system, take up a ton of room.I purchased a XX-Large compression sack, and it shrinks the bag down to half its size. It's pretty amazing. Construction on this bag is incredibly solid, all seams are in good places so they don't take the bulk of the pressure, and the cords are great quality. The compression is also lengthwise, which allows for the best compression. Cheap Wal-mart compression bags compress around the circumference, which is just awful. Here's the sizing chart for everyone's benefit, pulled from the manufacturer's website:SIZE: WEIGHT, DIAMETERxLENGTH, VOLUMEXS: 3.8oz/108grams, 6.5x15"/17x38cm, 475ci/7.8LS: 4.8oz/136grams, 7.5x17"/19x43cm, 675ci/11LM: 5.1oz/144grams, 8.5 x 19"/22x48cm, 975ci/16LL: 6.1oz/173grams, 10x20.5"/25x52cm, 1400ci/23LXL: 6.9oz/196grams, 11x22"/28x56cm, 1900ci/30LXXL: 8.5oz/241grams, 13x24"/33x61cm, 2700ci/45LXXXL: 9.5oz/269grams, 14x26"/36x66cm, 3500ci/57L(Diameter and length are the uncompressed dimensions)
