As a 40 year journeyman machinist I am very familiar with indicators. As with most things in life you get what you pay for. This is a middle of the road value indicator that is very capable considering its price. It’s not up to par with a Teclock which in my opinion would be the next step up in quality if that’s what you would be interested in, but for this price point the Fowler is hard to beat.Speaking from experience it’s a good idea to always remove the 4 screws on the back (one at a time) and Loctite them in place. They will eventually loosen if you don’t and the face will move on you. You don’t want that when you’re trying to hold a tight tolerance.

I'm pleased with the dial. Its accurate, the shaft and needle move fluidly. I bought a cheap one a while back and it would stick or not return quickly when measuring a part in the spindle at 50 rpm. I also like the styrofoam it came in. It's easy to open and easy to store in my toolbox. I just label with marker on the styrofoam. All in all I'm happy with the purchase.
