The Fowler 52-246 series outside micrometer has a blade-style anvil/spindle pair with a choice of measuring range and 0.0001" graduations and is designed to measure groove diameters of shafts and workpieces with narrow or recessed features. The Vernier scale has 0.0001" graduations and an accuracy of 0.0002" for precise readings and accurate measurements. A zero adjustment on the sleeve ensures accurate measurements. The blade has a 0.030" thickness, a 0.256" width, and a 0.315" penetration for measuring narrow grooves and hard-to-reach areas, and a non-rotating spindle keeps workpieces stable during measurements. The hardened, ground, and lapped spindle thread provides smooth movement, accuracy, and long life. The ratchet-stop thimble can be used independently of the friction thimble. It provides an audible sound and stops the spindle from turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. A satin chrome finish on the thimble and sleeve helps reduce rust and glare, providing durability and long life, and microfine graduations help ensure accurate readings. The baked-enamel frame is heat-insulated to provide durability, long life, and resistance to temperature-related expansion and contraction. The micrometer includes a wrench and a fitted case. I use this to measure a .047 wide snap ring groove that I can't get anything else into very easily or accurately.This mic was easy to use did exactly what I needed.
