The surface of 3240 epoxy laminate is smooth, free of air bubbles, pits and wrinkles, but other defects not affecting the use are permitted, such as: scratches, indentations, stains and small spots. The edges should be neatly cut and the end surfaces must be free from delamination and cracks.

The reaction between the epoxy resin and the curing agent used is carried out by direct addition reactions or ring-opening polymerisation of the epoxy groups in the resin molecule, without releasing water or other volatile by-products. They exhibit very low shrinkage (less than 2%) during curing compared to unsaturated polyester and phenolic resins.
