Worked great didn’t break. You have to go easy when tightening it. 1/2 turns at a time

Another review mentioned in didn't fit on their AWM engine. It worked fine on mine with no modifications. Just don't crank it down so tight.

Works as it should. 1.8t cam chain tensioner tool. It is plastic so as long as you don't over tighten it it does the job. I've used it 4 or 5 times already. You barely need it tighter than your hand can make it. I saw a few reviews of people saying it snapped but figured it was cheap enough to try it. Again it's plastic so if you have a ⅜ ratchet and you're expecting it to stop when it tight enough, yeah it'll break. There is nothing wrong with this tool, it's the people using it.

Ordered this tool to replace the chain tensioner gasket on my 01 Audi TT. The tool is poorly made because it would not make proper clearance in order to compress the tensioner. I shaved the tool on the bottom so that it would make clearance, only for it to hang on the inner part. Shaved that and that compromised the tool to the point it broke when i tried to compress the spring. Waste of time and money. Had to complete my valve cover gasket job without replacing the tensioner gasket and so I will have to do it all again once I have a functional tool.

Great little tool, definitely required if you are going to do the timing chain tensioner / cam chain tensioner on your VW or Audi 1.8t. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN IT! These are cheap plastic and will snap if you over tighten them. I ordered one and broke it, then ordered two more just in case. I broke one more but luckily the last one helped me get the job done. Be careful, other than that it's a great tool!

I already had one off these (different brand) from a long while ago, but since I was doing the job on another car I decided it was best to have a new one juuuuuust in case I needed it.Turns out I DID need it haha, this EWK part gave me no issues. You HAVE to make sure that regardless of which brand you use, make 100% SURE that you have the tool resting on the actual shoe and NOT the metal bracket for the tensioner. It's very easy to put just a little pressure on the chain once you have the holding tool in place so that you can nudge the tool back away from the metal bracket. After that you just tighten it down like any other hold down tool. If you don't pay attention to where it's pushing down on (you only have to do that once at the very beginning of tightening it down), then you'll be on that metal bracket and it WILL break the tool no matter who makes it.I've done this job multiple times on different cars and no problems with the hold down tool.

Used this item on a 2003 1.8T awp engine. Works as it should. When using this device be 100% sure the plastic ears are resting on the hard plastic which the chain rides on. This may require you to push chain over slightly. It’s a very tight fit but will move enough to allow these ears to rest on the hard plastic. If you use this device without this step, it will break because the angle of pressure is too much. Also, lubricate the threads before starting. Turn slowly. The chain will slack eventually. I was only changing the tensioner gaskets. At first the chain did not slack enough and the plastic started to slightly bend. I then backed out the bolt on the device and started again to avoid breaking the plastic. The second time the chain slacked more and allowed me to lift the tensioner assembly one half inch to slide gasket and moon gasket in and out. Take your time. This device will work as advertised. Do not over tighten. At the first sign of too much tension in the bolt or the plastic bends, stop and reassess. Good luck.
