I ordered these primarily for the fence strainers as I love this style of strainer. The ratchet is turned with a square knob, so they work with all kinds of tools (e.g. crescent wrench, pliers, or open ended wrench). The other similar style ratchet has a round bar instead of the square knob and requires a special tool to turn the ratchet. The tool isn’t so expensive but I often find myself in the field with a basic set of tools that doesn’t generally include the special tool for tightening the other style strainer. These are the style to get for ease of use and versatility.I love this kit because the steel cable is so versatile and useful on a farm, the ratchets are often needed, and the metal crimps are always in short supply in my tool shed. This kit would have been great when I built my grape trellises and for a lot of small fencing projects. I used the steel cable with this kit to hang a tarp to protect a calf from the sun and rain. The steel cable was easy to work with (not as stubborn as high tensile steel fencing) and the crimps hold it tight with no slippage. I didn’t use the strainers on that project, but will soon use them to finish cross fencing my pasture with barbed wire and electric fence. I don’t think I could buy all the material in this kit for less money and it is all high quality material.

Did not purchase due to close reading of description. For example: text says 200' wire included is steel, then says it's 9 gauge aluminum. Aluminum doesn't "rust" but does oxidize in contact with other conductors. It is light weight & easily bent, but has low tensile strength. Also single-strand wire is not rope.

All the critters in our neighborhood are fed and as a result, the gardens are constantly mowed down. I got this kit with all the fittings necessary to put up a light weight fence. All the connectors and ratchets work well and there were no manufacturing booboos to deal with. The wire will be fine for our needs as we are not using for any heavy weight animals. I was surprised by the ease of using the ratchets and not having to go buy a special tool that is hard to find when you need it. The set is very reasonably priced and a great way to get started when there is no garden and have ready for a winter garden. The instructions were also pretty easy to follow.

This fence kit made it easy to put back together fallen sections, and areas where it had been previously cut by past owners. Our fence had several gapped sections that just were not needed. Our dogs know to stay within a fence but they kept walking through the open parts. This fence kit allowed us to pull those gaps closed again and wire things down appropriately. I will say they are not very well designed for repeat use, more like a one and done kindof deal but even then it came with enough parts to make it all worth the effort. Would prefer some more solid stainless steel cranks rather than aluminum however they did seem to work well for short uses. Well done.

This package is complete, with ratchets, crimps and 9-gauge wire. I like that the knob on the ratchet is easy to turn with a variety of tools. The cables are very strong, which is perfect for large animal control. Galvanized steel is rust-resistant and weather-proof. This set saves a lot of time in installing wire fencing and is a good value.
