Edwards Signaling 590 Series Class 2 Signaling Transformers are easy to install, low voltage power sources for residential, commercial, and industrial uses. Mounts in a standard 1/2" (13mm) knockout or surface mounts using the provided foot mounts. These transformers are suitable for mounting in both plastic and metal back boxes. May also be used with the 593 transformer plate for enclosed mounting in a standard two gang outlet box. The Edwards 590, 590Y & 591 transformers are used in light duty applications. They are ideal for standard doorbells and chimes in residential and commercial applications.

Full disclosure...I purchased this transformer to be able to power a Nest Doorbell (battery) but didn't end up using it.The builder elected to not include a front doorbell in my home. Cost, aesthetics, oversight?...beat's me... but a terrible decision. The house was finished and there was no clear path (without extensive drywall damage and blind drilling) to the basement mechanical room or the CB panel where a traditional transformer would normally be mounted. There was a duplex outlet close to the front door but it was mounted in a wood panel, not drywall. My original plan was to replace the 1-gang box with a 2-gang box and use the Edwards Signaling 593 mounting plate and this transformer to power my Nest Doorbell. I was a little concerned about embedding the transformer inside a box, but the specs indicated it was rated for that use. After more investigation and hand wringing about the wood panel and running the low voltage wiring behind the wood the 6 feet to the doorbell, I decided it was easier to surface mount my new low voltage wiring from the doorbell in a cord channel and use a plug in transformer (OhmKat Video Doorbell Power Supply) instead.I still like the Edwards build quality and am keeping it in case my surface mount transformer doesn't hold up!

Had to replace a very old door bell transformer and this worked perfectly.

The transformer worked well. I bought it because it can be mounted inside a 2gang box (with adapter bracket). One caveat, it tests at ~20V instead of 16V. Not a problem for a vast majority of doorbell systems, but I wish it matched the description.
