These Domensi 3-Tiered Serving Trays arrived well packaged, with each of the two tiered black stands individually wrapped in bubble wrap, and the six melamine plates were also wrapped together in bubble wrap. No instructions were included in the package, but putting them together was obvious and easy, taking only a couple of minutes.I got these tiered trays not so much for serving food, but to help organize a recessed part of the counter in my kitchen, which was becoming crowded. I've recently been on a journey to upgrade my coffee experience, so have acquired coffee bean grinders, an electric kettle, various accessories, and various flavors of coffee beans. I find these trays provide a uniquely stylish way to host and arrange my countertop coffee bar accouterments. The three tiers allow for spatial separation, reducing clutter and providing better visualization. My original plan was to place both sets of these tiered trays in that area of my countertop, but that hasn't worked due to space limitations. I might be able to use the other set to provide a similarly stylish presentation of bath accessories in one of my bathrooms. As well, my niece has an Airbnb, so might be interested in using the other set of trays to present packaged snacks and other amenities for her guests.I personally would not place unwrapped food directly on the melamine plates. Although the U.S. FDA approves melamine as a safe plastic for serving food, they have cautioned against using melamine dishes for serving hot food or reheating food because the melamine can leach into food. This is why the product page for this product instructs not to use these plates in the microwave. As well, melamine can migrate into acidic foods such as citrus and tomatoes. Ingestion of melamine may lead to reproductive damage, or bladder or kidney stones. Other types of kidney damage from melamine have also been reported, as well as an association with bladder cancer. Another worrisome aspect of melamine dinnerware is the potential release of microplastics. As I'm using this product, I don't have fears of melamine ingestion and have found the tiered trays to be useful for countertop organization. However, I may replace these plates with with others constructed from a safer food-grade material, such as ceramic or porcelain.
