This is an old school 1" micrometer (no fancy electronics) yet in reasonably careful hands it can measure down to 0.0001". I was skeptical because of the price but blown away by the quality of this tool.I would most definitely recommend this for people who want a precision measuring tool and may not have frequent enough need to get something fancier.

I needed this tool while working on refurbishing a valve body of my VW's transmission. The tool feels good quality, operates smoothly. One thing I could complain on is the instructions. If you already know how to use the micrometer, then it may not matter to you. If it's your first time, you should educate yourself online.

Recently, I received the external micrometer from Dasqua and it immediately left a deep impression on me with its high-quality material and carefully designed packaging. I have previously tried the micrometer from Mitutoyo, and this mics performs exceptionally well in terms of value for money. In this review, I will share my experience using this product, focusing on its packaging, performance, and a few minor drawbacks.Impressive packaging and secure storage: The packaging of this micrometer left a deep impression on me. The micrometer is securely fixed inside the box, unlike other models I have purchased before that made noise when moved. This attention to detail ensures effective protection of the micrometer during transportation and storage.Advantage of stainless steel material: One major advantage of this micrometer is its stainless steel measuring thread. Even though I carefully clean it before putting it back into the box, I have great confidence in its resistance to oil contamination and corrosion. The clear scale is another reason why this micrometer has received positive feedback, making it easy to use.Cons: The only drawback is a small oil stain that may be left during the manufacturing or inspection process. However, this has not had a significant impact on my overall impression of the product as I can easily wipe it off with a cloth. I reached out to the seller, and they responded promptly, explaining that the oil is used to protect the micrometer from rusting during prolonged storage, which is indeed a smart approach. Conclusion and recommendation: Overall, I am highly satisfied with this external micrometer. I highly recommend this product, as it excels in both product quality and packaging. Additionally, it comes with a warranty card and inspection certification, further enhancing my confidence in the product's quality. Although this is my first time trying a product from this brand, I am extremely pleased with this outside micrometer. I highly recommend it and plan to write another review after one year of use.

I am revising my original review because the product description has been updated. This micrometer measures objects from 0 to slightly over 1 inch from the outside. It has a stated accuracy of 0.00015 inches. At the time of review, this micrometer is $30. A few weeks back when I first wrote my review, a Starrett 436.1XRL-1 was listed on Amazon at $66.50. Now I see it is $95.11, so although I was originally was inclined to just go with the Starrett, it is a more difficult call now when the Starrett is 3x the price. Before going into details, I want to comment on the accuracy of these tools. First of all, in my mind, no tool can be more accurate than its precision, and this micrometer is only graduated to 0.001 inches. We can “guesstimate” a 4th decimal place, but without the markings, it is just that … a guess. The description claims an accuracy of 0.00015 inches, which I’ve found no reason to doubt, but without the 0.0001 vernier scale, it is not possible to measure to that level of precision. I wouldn’t feel confident trying to guess anything more precise than 0.0005.Originally, I just compared the Dasqua to an antique Starrett 436 I had that is probably approaching 70 years old. Since the first review, I purchased a used modern Starrett 436 at auction, which ended up being about the same price as the Dasqua. I don’t recommend buying used micrometers, just off the assumption that people are more likely to sell their “played out” micrometer than they are to sell a perfect one, but I wanted to see what Sarrett changed over the years, and also, I wanted to try out the 0.0001 vernier scale which the new one had and my antique did not.The anvil faces were in much better shape on the new Dasqua (which I expected when compared to a used item or an antique), however, the Dasqua would not zero out no matter how much I wiped it down. I ended up having to use the calibration wrench to zero it as it was off by about 0.00025 out of the box.I much preferred the graduation markings on the two Starrett micrometers, with every fractional mark from 0 to 24 being labeled instead of just every 5 on the Dasqua. Also, the markings on the Starrett are cut much deeper and much easier to read. One thing I preferred on the Dasqua is that it is graduated out past 1 inch, so if I wanted to measure something that is just slightly longer than an inch, I could do it. The Starrett stops at 1 inch. I also liked the case on the Dasqua. If my Starrett ever had a case, it is long gone now.I bought a cheap 1” standard rod, which both Sarrett micrometers measured out to be about 1.0001 inches, while the Dasqua seemed to have it a bit longer (without the markings, it is just a guess, but I posted photos of the two readings). The one thing I learned out of all this is that the 0.0001 vernier scale is pretty nice and I honestly would never consider purchasing a micrometer without one. With most of the micrometers I looked at, there didn’t seem to be a significant price difference between one with the 0.0001 scale and the same model with just a 0.001 scale. Even if you don’t need the precision, why not get it just in case?I realized that it is really not fair to compare a $30 micrometer with a Starrett. Honestly, a better comparison for the Dasqua may be this 1 inch micrometer that actually has the 0.0001 vernier scale, and is currently $13.60 (I know nothing else about it):www.amazon.com/dp/B0BK72WY39/ref=twister_B0BZLR4RXMIn summary, I think this micrometer is fine if you only need precision down to about the 0.0005 inch level. If you need finer precision than that, I would get a micrometer with a vernier scale. The fact that the Dasqua could be compared to the Starrett micrometers at all speaks in its favor. The one thing I can clearly knock the Dasqua for is being so far off zero out of the box. For $30, we can’t expect to get a Sarrett, but I don’t think its unreasonable to expect it to zero out, at least down to its stated accuracy.

I didnt expect much for the price but I checked these with several gage blocks and compared it with readings from my mitutoyo digital mics and they were matching with the more expensive equipment. In my opinion they are better than all other measuring equipment but the top of the line starrett and mitutoyo products and I plan to buy more dasqua items in the future.
