Eugene Nicolas Sartory (1871-1946) was an influential French bow maker from Mirecourt, France. His bows, stamped 'E. Sartory A Paris,' are known for their sturdy construction and strong shafts. Their reliability and consistency put them amongst the most popular bows in the world. The DZ Strad Sartory copy, also stamped 'E. Sartory A Paris,' is a strong, round stick Pernambuco bow with medium weight, articulate tone, easy bounce, and even response. Featuring a fully silver-lined Ebony frog and silver adjustment screw, the handgrip is made with lizard skin leather wrapping over silver lapping. Handcrafted with expertly selected wood, the Sartory copy is a beautiful reproduction, polished to a jewel-like finish.

I bought this bow to go with my carbon fiber violin. I wanted something that was not too pricey, but not a super-cheap bow. This fits the bill. It actually brings out more sound and power from my carbon fiber violin than a wood bow. However, this bow didn't do too well for my wood violin...it sounded a bit scratchy and felt a little heavier on the strings, even though it is the same weight as my wood bow. Since I bought it to use exclusively for the carbon fiber violin though, it is just what I was looking for. The carbon fiber violin is a bit quieter in tone, so adding this bow makes it sound more powerful. Overall, I'm happy with its performance, and it is a very pretty bow visually.

I was able to surprise my daughter with this for Christmas. She’s an advanced player at the varsity level of high school. She loved the feel of this bow over her existing one. The tone generated felt more crisp to her. She also appreciated the bow’s physical design beauty with the Fleur-De-Lis accent.

This bow was quite a step up in price from the cheap-o wood bow included with my rented Yamaha violin. When I was having difficulty with the bow, my teacher recommended that I might try a carbon fiber bow. The DZ Strad bow is perfectly balanced, feels good in my hand, and I play so much better now. Like with anything you want to learn to do well, it is easier to succeed with better quality materials. Violin isn’t an easy instrument to learn, so why make it any harder? I also think it’s beautiful, with the fleur de lis and mother of pearl accents. I love it! Highly recommended!
